Emerald made it clear that he was always different with his unstable powers, and this instability caused a lot of failures. While Blue Diamond was getting ready to have him broken for his constant errors, Emerald's power proved perfectly destructive for war. Haüyne played this idea in her head, and she played along.

Emerald was then sent to war, and his power proved to be useful against the rebels. However, these blows weren't intentional.. He was afraid, and it showed.. Eventually, he ran away and deserted the battle. He cried, and spoke aloud to himself about how useless he was, and how he should've been broken. Enter Rose Quartz, who overheard all of his words. She knew he wasn't dangerous by choice, and explained to him that he is worth more than he thinks. Her explanations featured metaphors of his beauty and worth compared to Earth, and why she fights for that beauty, and freedom. Her words touched Emerald... And that's how he decided to stand strong and fight for Earth. A cause worth fight for.

Today, Emerald is teamed up with Demantoid and Black Pearl. He still loves Sunstone to death, but enjoys travelling on his own.
