These are sooo amazing!! How did you get such great smoothness with the sun-mask? Whenever I'd dealt with paper mache the texture turns out looking more like the Night mask you've got here. I don't know if it's the paper/glue combo. I use, but sanding doesn't seem to do anything....:/

Gorgeous work, though!

Sorry for my much delayed response - I've been away.

Thank you! It takes a lot of time with a sander and a lot of patience to achieve a very smooth finish. You can help things along by putting a layer of fine tissue paper as your top layer - this sometimes smooths things out, but the secret really is to have your papier-mache as smooth as possible before you gesso it. This is easier to achieve in a negative mask mould, though it does involve making a sculpt of the mask first and then casting the mould.

... Or you can exploit all of the fabulous possibilities of texture! I'm increasingly opting for this as building moulds is quite a process, and not really cost effective for one-off masks.

Good to see you back, by the way.
