Description
This was a commission for a friend's birthday. A lovely darkly gothic mask in papier-mache, with craquelure glaze and metallic gold highlights.Related content

Well spotted - they loved those masks so I thought I'd try to create something similar for them, but not identical.

Amazing, when I first saw the mask I thought it was molded out of metal, I never would have guessed it was papier-mache, where did you learn how to make masks like this?

That's just rediculous! I just made a papier mache mask today and it looks like nothing even close to that! Great work! (Also, I know this was to a different person, but thanks for the sand paper advice, I'm deffinitely using that)

You're quite welcome - sand paper is your friend!
Thank you, and good luck with your future mask work.

Really good work, wouldn't have known it was paper mache.
And may I ask, how did you achieve the metallic effect?

Thank you!
The effect was achieved using a dry powdered gold pigment, which was then rubbed into the crackle glaze. The varnish was sprayed over the top which sealed the powder in. hope this helps!

Gorgeous. (:
I almost though it was made of actual metal until I read what you used for it.

That looks so much like real metal!! It is very similar to the Harry Potter Death Eater masks, but very individual as well.
Awesome work!!

Ohh, it owes so much to the latest fabulous Death Eater masks, but it still is totally its own invention and ornamentation. I love it!

It does indeed owe a lot to the lated Death Eater masks. I actually made three of these, of different designs - this was the most original, and was not intended for a Death Eater.
The other two were for Narcissa and Bellatrix. They were a lot closer to the masks from the film, which is why I have not posted them here - I cannot take any credit for the design. They were worn to the Waterstones Book 7 event in London, which was loads of fun!

I am not surprised you found them so inspiring. When I first saw the set on the WB web-page I was just blown away. They were so much better than the rotted skull things they had in the previous movie.
