Got carried away doing homework and while browsing through my "Inspiration" folder, I found this piece and thought, wow, as old as this is, this is still one of my top faves from you. It has not lost its impact over the years, and it's still as beautiful as it always has been.
And comparing him to your recent pics of him, little Wraith has evolved quite a bit. XP

Hey hey! I am totally sorry I am late getting back to this. Lately I look on the PC screen with dark apathetic eyes :-D
Obviously not your comments. Anyway, thank you for your deep words of the piece. I think it's one of my rawer ones. As in, what I really felt (struggling and clinging onto something damnit!) at the time sort of came through in this pice. I did get some 'Nice art... but tell me... my friend... are you ok?' from people on TA. So yeah, the emotion's real.
Lil Wraith has evolved quite a bit. He is still grumpy as ever though XP
Thanks so much for your lovely words

You really are incredible on oekai now. You really are! And no need to comment back
Now. The chains are very good, I love the shading, they really look metallic. They are a little more pixelly than Wraith but overall they stand out sufficantly against the dark background, a hard task considering chains are...well, dark. They're positioned well and Wraith works well against them.
As for the man himself (actually, how old is he? 1? 2? 23? 2,090()) he's done really well. the slightly messy but soft style works well with the mood of the picture and establishes it as less of a comic and more of a stand alone painting. The quills are excellent although if it were possible, a few pixels or less of dark blue on the back two spines would be great and help show that they aren't solid lilac-blue. The feet seem backwards which isn't great but overall you did him excellently. I love the shading, although if it were darker considering the light is behind him... really minor though, it's beautiful shading!
Now. The background! really, really stunning. The water is LOVELY, it really adds to the effect of a grim area! You did it well, it suits the style and looks unreal, and yet is smehow believable. I adore the light! It looks so soft and yet hard, if you know what i mean-harsh. yet comforting. Suits the picture. The subtle, abstract at first but then very detailed backgoround is great too, it looks very awsome. it reveals more and more as you look- although the green streaks are a little odd. Even more detail at the top would have been nice, but overall the background is GREAT!
Now, the emotion. this... is incredible. You're UNBELIEVABLE at this thing. It looks like he's tired of everything, annoyed, determined and also uncertain at the same time. We all know he could hold on, but will he, being so distracted? Amazing, you are really amazing with these things.
Wow. Longest comment I've ever done. No, It's NOT to try and rival pink-shimmer!
Seriously, I know you didn't want crit and I gave it, but hey, you said mine was OK. Seriously, you are REALLY talanted and I already miss you
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed doing it as much as I enjoyed looking at it!

In the RP's Wraith comes across as such a mean bastard. But I like to think that that is justified. He has had a hard time. My fellow RP'ers will never be able to understand that and seem to rather think him as an evil 2D character. No. I like to believe there's a chance for him. Poor him. He is my muse and I tend to draw pics that depict my well-being.
Anyway, thank you for your insight and thanks for the fav

xD Bridget said like everything!! Ah man, she beat me here! Ahhhh well, I will try to make a different sounding comment that still talks about the whole piccy.
Ahh man, what to start off talking about.....I guess I will just start talking about Wraith and move to the most important thing next. Ahh man, this pic is almost making me cry. Wraith looks like he's really hurt and/or he might have fainted or something...or he's just hanging on for dear-life. The pose is splendid with how you made him holding onto the chain, just looks so fantastic. You got the holding onto something pose just so perfectly and it just looks wonderful. I love how you made his legs and shoes just facing a straight down location. I mean, most people would probably make some little knee/shoe bendings if they did a pic like this. But Im so glad you made his legs and shoes just like that, its just like what a person would be like if they were hanging onto a chain or something. I mean, its pretty hard to move your legs anyway when your hanging onto something (xD I hang onto lots of things so I should know) He just looks so helpless in this pic, its making me sad, but then again from the amaziness in this pic, its making me happy and smile. I love how you made his head tilting to the side, because its probably really painful and hard for him to be hanging on to that so and people usually tilt their heads to the side when their tired or in pain (Well I do anyways) The rain was a great effect and thing to add to this pic, the pic would still be good without the rain, but it wouldn't be as good and less stuff would be going on and all. The little drops on Wraith just look splendid and I love how you made some dripping, but then others just drops. The amount of detail in the chains is just too amazing, I love how you made them look really rough by putting little visible lines in them and then putting white spots here and there. Its incredible, I swear. I absolutly am in love with how you made the light coming down from the top, soo now I can guess that he might have been trying to escape and he was almost there until he got too tired and couldn't go on. See just the little stuff you add in your pics just make people have more ideas of what was going on in the pic.
Ahh man Kate, I wish I could have made this comment more better but my commenting skills are just so dull these days. They will come back though sooner or later. Fantastic job....Im just loving your pics better and better. Keep them coming!

It's gorgeous to see you back Amanda
And I must tell you, I think you and Bridget are abseloutly one in a million to take the time to look at someone's picture and comment on EVERYTHING it portrays to you... seriously. It really is so amazing to have the both of you as friends and hear your insights ;_;. I'm not worthy!!! Oh well, going to cherish this anyhooooo
But I don't know how you two do it. You just nail it all the time!
Awww... hope the pic didn't make you cry too much. It's funny cos three people asked me afterwards if I was 'ok' and what sort of like- motivated this picture. Wraith is my muse and the poor bugger seems to suffer when I am down.
You know, those legs were SO hard to get right! xD I am glad you approve there! Cos I had this vague image in my mind that they're pretty inanimate when they're not on the ground. I wanted to make his limbs look helpless. His legs anyway. And his hands the one gripping on for dear life...
Yeah, I also tried to get the tilting of a head to one side to make his face looked pained. Or maybe struggling with his troubles. Sturggling to get up again as it were. Thanks for smacking that
I couldn't decide whether the rain was good there... or without. But I'm glad it seems grand either way! : D
I also like your interpretation fo the fact that he tried to escape. But had no energy to go on. That's pretty deep actually. Can sort of like... seen in real life. Related to struggles we try to endure...
Your comment was perfect. Quit complaining! *shakes a finger* I'm really grateful to have had your insight... thanks a million

Hehe Im glad to be back and seeing you again Kate <33
Haha my comments aren't really that good are they? Well Bridgets are as anyone can see...but I don't think mine are that good, especially now xD Well I try to make them good like how you explain how I make them. Well I think that what a person deserves on their art, I mean they spended valuable time working on a pic, especially people who spend hours...or even days on their art. Its only fair to the artist that the commenter takes the time to look closely at the person's art and then tell the artist what the like the best and stuff and maybe give them some critics to help them (I don't give critics a lot though xD Im afraid to go overboard, plus Im blind with critics)
Nah, don't worry, it didn't make me cry really xD Just gave me that little sad feeling in my stomach like *omg...I feel so bad for him* and just yeah you know Haha yeah a lot of times when I show those sad kind of pics to people, they ask me if Im ok or sad or anything xD Im like "IM FINE!!!" Hah yeah the character usually suffers when the artist is not feeling good, thats right. Poor Wraith!
Well thats good that they were hard, that means it probably made you feel so much better after you got them right (Well thats how I feel a lot) Again, you made the hands and legs and feet wonderful.
Aww man Kate, well I can't go on anymore with replying since the horrible heat were having right now...I mean Im dying right now! Ahh man, again wonderful job on this pic and Im glad you loved my comment so much.
Take care and look forward for more comments from me

Very, VERY deep Ben... *stares at the picture for a long while*
Like SH said, it's a very good portrayal of "hanging around". It gives me the sense that Wraith is a puppet, dangling there on unbreakable chains...so close to the darkness, yet so close to the light. Freedom. Yet he's having his doubts...from the expression on his face, I'd say the poor guy doesn't know where to turn, because giving in to the darkness seems so easy; but yet it's not, 'cause Wraith himself is a fighter. The background really gives more to the picture, especially the chains, which I like to consider as the many paths Wraith has to choose. Some are long and some are short. Some are easy to climb, and some are hard as hell.
All in all, the whole composition of this picture is stunningly deep, and fabulously drawn.

Thanks Kim
I liked your interperatation of the pic. He is a bit of a puppet in a way. I know he is really mean in the RP's. But he has a had a hard time. Let's face it. Even if he is free from GUN now, he'll have that emotional burden. His way of taking it out in the RP's is to be patriotic and sociopathic. Other people could be melancholic... angsty. I do like to think that there is a chance that maybe he can turn. I know the other RP'ers might dissapprove... but who cares? XD I prefer not to have him as a 2D character...
That is also interesting what you said about relating chains to different pathways... some being easy to climb and others diffecult. Very original insight there
Thanks a million for that and thanks for the fav as well

I know what you mean by that, and I'm glad I shed some new light on the chai theory. ^^ I have some characters that at spiteful and such, because of past wrongs or whatnot. Green Lightning acted that way because he was like Wraith...he claimed he was much better than the template being he was created from. *nods at Storm*
Finally someone was able to knock some sense into his thick head, though. xD
π: 0 β©: 1
xWraithx In reply to JamiRu [2005-07-18 05:28:45 +0000 UTC]
I do tend to get the feeling that if I show Wraith as a character that perhaps has a reason for his ways, that I get frowned upon. But that's annoying. He's not the Sith...
I have tried to get him to show some good at times in the RP's. Perhaps I'll be able to outline more in 'Forest of the Future', neh? Not sure about the 'Rise and Fall' so far. Ha ha! He's TERRRIBLE in that one X)
.... who was it that 'knocked' some sense into GL then?
π: 0 β©: 1
JamiRu In reply to xWraithx [2005-07-18 14:54:44 +0000 UTC]
Well it goes like this.....
Storm felt that Green Lightning was a trouble to the team, and it was his own fault he let Dr. Hugo (the mad scientist dude) get his DNA stuffs. So Storm went to find Hugo and GL, and ended up fighting his clone and destroying Hugo's most recent base in the process. (it was in ruins) Green Lightning then gets the edge on Storm and begins to beat him to a pulp.
Just as GL is about to give a deafening blow, Ruby comes to the rescue, knowing all along that her leader would try something like this. However, Ruby may be strong, but Green is still stronger and has more stamina than she. He ignores her when she's down saying "You're not worth the trouble, squirt...so stay outta this. This is between me and my...brother...."
Ruby then tries to use words instead of blows, and stops GL in his tracks. They both argue about whether Green Lightning is the pathetic one, following Dr. Hugo like a puppet. Ruby's words end up making Green so confused, he stops what he's doing and stumbles off a few feet. He runs off without a word.
And while Storm and Ruby are healing, Green Lightning goes and finds Hugo and "liberates" himself, saying he no longer serves such a pathetic person as the doctor. Even though he was now free, GL takes the time to sort through his thoughts, and joins Storm's gang. At first, they all stay away from him (except Ruby and sometimes Storm) but eventually they all warm up to 'em.
Green Lightning then becomes a member of the Philonious family. Happy days! n__n *shot for the sappy ending*

Anyway I'll say this is a fantastic picture that is very well drawn, the composition is good and the idea, which is absolutely fantastic, is executed very well. The colours are simply fantastic as well and the light reflections coming off the chains are superb. The detail in this is simply amazing, and the ray of light gives opportunity for the many well used tones here. Fantastic job, keep it up. ^_~

xWraithx In reply to Pachamac [2005-07-16 13:41:39 +0000 UTC]
Dunno about that one . SonicKun wrote something along those lengths at TA but wasn't a rehashed version of Pink-Shimmer's lovely comment. She basically told me what the picture portrayed to her- what with the fact it demonstrated a sense of isolation, loneliness, the fact he's sinking lower and lower. Vix Silven said that it seemed hopeful in at least that he was still holding on. And Sonidow asked me if I was okay XD. Well she also contrasted the dark and light and related it with survival and doom...
So basically I think people interperate different things, and that there is no right and wrong answer.
Anyway, thanks very much for the compliments on the colouring, tones, and the idea itself. That in itself was hard to get across as well as the actual sort of like... sentiment of this picture as it were o.o . Thanks for the fav as well

*stares at the picture for an hour or so* .....o.o I find this oekaki picture down right gorgeous, and the drops that you did is done well and gives a very nice, cold mood in the picture. I like how you did everything in the picture here, really, it's quite stunning. The 3D look without the outlines is just, wow. I've tried that once on an oekaki, but I failed on it. As always, you're quite talented with using the oekaki. The way you drew this is excellent, porportions are done lovely here and also, the setting is perfect for the way Wraith's expression is showing here. Wraith is one unique character in my point of view. His cold colors always seem to fit with his common personalities, sadness, rage, all that good stuff. or bad stuff be more accurate. ;3
When looking at this quickly, at first, I thought that he was bondaged/tied up. But looking at this more as the time passed by and also fitting with the italic words in the artist's comment, I realised that he was just hanging onto one chain rope. I haven't see a picture with a character holding onto a chain rope for quite some time, it's great to see one again. I like how you did the position of Wraith here, and also how you did his expression too. I like how you have his arms sort of wrapping around the chains here, not to tight, nor to loose. His danggling legs are drawned very well; looks like he's not using them to climp up the chain however. But, back to he arms, his hands are draw well and you can see them visiably, not blending in to much into the picture, so we can still see them. His fur seems to be a bit droopy looking, like bits of water got in them and are weighing them down; I find this a remarkably excellent idea for this picture, even if you did that on purpose of not. He seems to be thinking here, mostly on why he hang around maybe. He looks as though he's in pain or in sorrow, either way, it's wonderful and both fit in with the picture perfectly. I really love how his stripes a icy lilic and seem to be 'dripping' down, like they are paint and was effected by the rain; colors washing away if that's what I'm trying to say. Ears can bring a lot of emotions with the picture, and it looks like you used them very wisely. I like how you have one a bit down in front while the other one is up from the pressure of his hands there and holding it up. His muscle really stands out from the rest of the colors, which I really like. The water drops are absolutely wonderful, and I think I said before the it gives the mood that extra spice to it. And how you have a little bit of water drops on Wraiths fur and trinkling down on him is excellent. Lastly, I like how you drew his white chest fur. I like how it too makes Wraith stand out more out into the picture.
Now Kate, those chains, so make me want to faint from astonishment, but I can't faint, nor cry with joy. *is a pathetic human l3;* I love how you made them eaching standing out from the other rings/chains and how you applied shines to each one to show that they are really made of metal and are real. Each chain rope is beautful and I like how you have one in the background in a loop while the others are straight from being tied to the ceiling. Again, I must say you did the water drops in Photoshop amazingly. The background behind Wraith, really makes me wonder a lot. Were is he? To me.. it looks like a dungon of an abandon building, and Wraith happened to fall from the ceiling and managed to grab onto a chain rope. I dunno, that's my just my story. But that background gives me that strange creeping/chilling feeling.. looks quite mysterious to me actually, but still scary looking. I like how you did the sections and the seperation due to a pole going form the top to the bottom, and one level from cement goign left to right. There are some green things on the background as well, not sure what they are, but they really fit in with the 'creepiness' feeling here. I like how you gave in an open area at the top, looks great in my point of view, and it takes a nice amount of scary feelings I had before. but it's still there though. I like how the Sunlight ray it shining down on Wraith, the chains, and a few other areas here and there. I also like how you made the part were the ceiling breaks off and showing the sun. Don't know how to really describing what it's called, but I like how you did the bricks at the end, where the sunlight is seeping through.
The colors you apply to your oekaki pics are always magnificent to see. Shadings and highlights are drawn lovely and perfect in my opinion. Excellent job with doing the emotions in your pictures; I adore artists who can pull in a lot of emotions into one picture and more. And also, I like how you did that black 'film' at the bottom and the top, feels like this is a moive I'm seeing instead of a picture. Superb job as always Wraith. Can't wait to see more of your work once I come back in two weeks. Till then, take care. *hugs* ;3 And keep up the splendid work as always. ^_^
