xyxtlin — Fatter isn't always better

Description
I get a little tired of people implying (or just outright saying) that anything fatter I draw is always better (no matter how much work I put into something I've just drawn that just happens to look "slimmer" pay no attention to higher quality line art folks!).

I was feeling a bit more irked about it last night than usual, I decided to make a statement with this little "tutorial"

Yes, I could just draw super fat things, yes I could do drawings in 5 minutes flat... why wouldn't I? because I care about quality.

Admittedly I'm just an amature artist, and I don't have nearly as much talent as most people here on DA, but at least I care about some of the art I do.

Bring out the flame throwers

Post Production note: "Looks" was a typo, and I'm too lazy to go back and fix it

AHAHA, this was very entertaining to read. I'm personally not a fan of the people who draw women so fat they have no mobility or realistic way of still being alive. Are people telling you to draw your pictures that way?

I often get the comment that a crappier pic I've done in the past is better, simply because it looks bigger.

That is why I did this piece, heh

Too true... Anyway, anyone who is critical of your art might as well just shut up, I mean, whats the point? Do people think that if they make over a certain form that you, as the creative genius, must conform your work to their preferences?

Well played, Xyxlin... Well played.

Still, I have been granted the fortune of seeing art of incredibly large women like the ones described in your rant that were fairly good. You just have to keep your eyes peeled or they'll wizz past you at 88 MPH.

Anyway, I like this message and a bit of sarcastic humor never hurt anyone. So, I'm faving this bad boy. Thank you for your enlightenment.

Thanks, though I think the point is more "don't just judge my pics by how fat they are"

I wasn't really picking on other people's art, lol.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I wasn't trying to say that. I was just agreeing that quality is primary. I know you aren't the kind to rag on others art.

For the sake of arguement, I DISAGREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYAH

Or rather, I believe that quality should come before quanty in relation to size. it's better to see a well drawn woman of ample porportions than an amorphis blob, but if that same amout of skill can go into a massive woman, what then? I ask you, kind sir.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xyxtlin In reply to FireFox02002 [2007-01-10 05:58:59 +0000 UTC]

That's up to taste I suppose.

What I'm arguing though, is that with many of my older (much less talented) works, people tend to ignore quite serious flaws in the drawing and call them "better" because they look a bit bigger. This despite the fact that I put several hours more into the newer works...

I hope that answers your question unsatisfactorily.

Frankly, I think part of the problem is pageviews and artviews as a popularity indicator, since it basically means your number goes up everytime somebody goes "wtf is this? o.0"

Sorry, I also only now noticed all the errors in the anatomy. Which of course I realize were intentional.
Anyway, sorry that you feel this way. I can emphasize (can't spell today) with you, I'm an artistic writer opposed to a fetish writer and I'm starting to take some heat for it.

Realism is good, it means you maintain a good sense of what is probable. Fantasy is also good, it strengthens your imagination. People who except fantasy without having to deal with reality... are idiots who need to remove their heads from their xxxl butts.

*iss too lazy to read all the other comments so will probably repeat what some said and this comment is probably very late compared to when this drawing has been posted but*

THANK YOU! Good cow, thank you. This is very annoying when someone gets attention no matter the quality of "fat art" someone does while normal/average/slim characters are ignored despite we worked on it more and gave much more effort and time on it.
That and the dreaded "Oooh Sexy! Make her bigger? " comments like it's NEVER enough.

Anywho, completly agreeing (sp?) with you on this. Efforts/skills > content of a drawing. Now I need to fav this to spread the word around.

Fatter isn't ALWAYS better, no. But I think that YOUR fatter art would be really, really great Now you're actually better than akia ever was, with smoother lines and more attractive forms, but the only thing that keeps her as my fav is that her progressions go further I think Akia had the right balance - she didn't take it too far, or make them look shapeless, but they were still really really fat at the end of the progression.

Also, fatter drawings can be better appreciated when you can see a thinner version of the character. That's why I like progressions! You just can't appreciate a "fat" drawing as much without the thinner counterparts. I would looove you to draw fatter characters, just like I would love Ark to draw more actual, quadropedal dragons. But sadly, as much as I'd like to, I can't force you to. But your Mish no 7 is still my most fave ^-^.

But if you're going to draw them like THAT thing up there, then no way

Anyway, I hope I'm allowed to disagree.

xyxtlin In reply to feymoonssbbw [2006-10-19 04:32:34 +0000 UTC]

heh.

I have to disagree on the Akia part.

The sequence thing is correct to a point, but I think that there's a limit to that too.
