She never said that they are supposed to be anatomically correct, so there's no need to point this out. I bet there are other kinds of tutorials on DA or the internet, that can help you draw realistic wings. So if you're intersted in these go and look around? Because posting comments like this isn't any helpful at all if the artists never said that these are meant to be realistic wings. x'D

All she actually did was to show herΒ painting technique. She didn't feature any kind of anatomy related steps, right?. It's all about painting XD How anatomically correct or incorrect your sketch/wings will be is up to you, because this tutorial focus on explaining the coloration only : >

younger artists might take this as more than just a coloring tutorial, it could be helpful in a sense that if Β you're going to teach people you might want to make what you're teaching as correct as possible, and this includes anatomy, if I were to make a tutorial on how to color a cat and drew that cat anatomically wrong people would call that out on me and they would be right even if the point of the tutorial was to show how to paint and not the actual anatomy.

basic principle imo.Β

*sighs*
Younger artists are not stupid and able to decide for themselves wheter or not a tutorial is helpful to them or not.

Many people seem to forget about that when it comes to stuff like this and instead expect the artist to create something absolutely flawless no one in this world could possibly misunderstand. I think it's pretty obvious that this tutorial is based on the drawing style of the artist and also features her way of drawing wings, even though they are anything else but realistic or anatomically correct. Don't get me wrong, I do infact understand your worries to a certain point, but I don't think it's the artist fault if people cannot think for themselves (or read through the description) and therefore don't understand that this tutorial -in fact- isn't meant to teach them anything about the anatomy of real wings. It's just about how Yaichi does things.

I don't think you should be so offended by this, you seem more hurt than the artist when this is not even meant to be a mean comment just a small point out.
young artists tend to copy other artists, I just think encouraging them to learn and see how anatomy works is good for them and experienced artists.

anyway even without having younger artists in mind I don't see how criticism should be so hardly rejected, sujestions or critics aren't insults Β

stay well

Nah, I am not offended by this... XD
I am just... I dunno, tired I guess, because many artists have to deal with 'critiques' similar to this, which seem kinda far-fetched and do anything else but help them. I think the wording of critiques and/or suggestions is very important too.

"I love your art but I think you should really fix the anatomy one this.." seems like a demand, rather than an helpful advice. Even though I am pretty sure you just wanted to point it out, instead of "telling her what to do". Hope you understand what I try to explain here and where I see the problem. Critique is good, but in cases like this somewhat pointless Β΄u`

Anyway, thanks for staying calm during this... 'discussion' : >
Have a nice day~

yeah I understand and I agree my wording could have been better!
and of course neither I or you had any reason not to be calm in the first place :3Β

It says "how to draw wings", not "how to paint". People are going to use this as a wing reference.

Aishishi In reply to anotherside12 [2014-07-27 13:11:47 +0000 UTC]

And? XD
So what if people use this as reference? Isn't it up to them wheter or not to decide if this is going to help them? Besides it still not saying "How to draw realistic/anatomically correct wings" there are also lots of people who either don't care or don't even plan on drawing realistic (wings) at all u w u Not every drawing style is based on realistic anatomy.

Also Yaichi isn't that good in writing english, which explains the rather 'simple' title she used for this thing. Who could've known people would take a simple title like this as serious as this? :' >

Well someone can't take critique even though it has nothing to do with you?? No one asked you to be their white knight. I just pointed out a thing and you come here like "it's not supposed to be anatomically correct!!!" There are people who take this as an anatomy tutorial and without knowing how wings work they can't see anything wrong with this.

Who could've known people would take a simple critique as serious as this?

No need to feel offended here. I didn't intent to sound harsh and I am sorry if my critique on your critique insulted you in some way....? u w u'

I just wanted to point out a thing as well because many people write critiques like this and don't even think about how it makes the artist feel. In this case the artist itself started to wonder why people would point out the anatomy, even tell her to correct it, when the tutorial itself isn't even slightly supposed to teach anything anatomy-related at all. If people decide to take this for anatomy-lessons even though the word "anatomy" isn't even used a single time neither in the title nor description, than it's their own fault that they won't achieve the amount of anatomy knowledge they were looking for.

I know you just wanted to help, but the way you did ("This isn't anatomically correct...") isn't helping anyone and just leaves the artist with confusion :<

I don't expect you to share my opinion or anything, but hope that you will at least think about it twice and see the problem yourself Β΄3`
