I have been wanting to make Saint Oniisan fanart for a while but I only got around to it now!
At first I was thinking of drawing them in the style of the manga, but I thought that using this style would be more parodical of the Jesus and Buddha roommate concept.
I need references when working in this style, but I didn't have people to model for me so I pulled out a couple pictures off Getty Images and turned them into Jesus and Buddha. HAH.
This has been one of the most brilliant and hilarious manga I have ever read, and nothing has endeared Jesus to me like this manga has! You know, if my school made me read this manga instead of forcing Church down my throat I would have been a better Catholic. ...Maybe. Nevermind, haha.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate God or Jesus. I think they're awesome! It's what some jerks have done to Christianity that I hate.

Since Jesus was a Palestinian Jew andΒ Gautama was a Vedic Prince, I Simply assumed that they were eating EelΒ or/and Tofu. Pork or Beef just struck me as being an N/G, what with the former being blasphemous and the latter being sacred. (Who cares about faith at the table anyway damn it, were talking lunch here.)
Besides, you can get Pork,Β Beef, Lamb, Chicken, Goat,Β DuckΒ or evenΒ HorseΒ anywhere at anytime,Β but Japan is legendary for there Eel, after all. I just assumed they'd be eating Eel due to that fact in and of itself.Β
I'm from New York. we will go into a restaurant, lets say 8 deep. 6 guys will have different religions, one guy is agnostic, ones an atheist. no one cares. they order there food and sit down and eat.
it's a running joke at places like Katz's' and the Carnegie, a Catholic, Jew, Muslim, andΒ HinduΒ will all be on line simultaneously with out batting an eye. they don't even notice, they're too busy running there order through there head before they reach the counter.
(From watching this my whole life for over 30 years, it is my firm belief that a triple decker hero andΒ egg cream with a side of 'slaw and a garlic dill are the tools necessary to achieve world peace.)
Just something to keep in mind when looking at this picture. they are enjoying there lunch way too much for there conversation to be anything but fluff. the food is just simply to good.

It's pretty awesome. But i',m really not sure whether to find religious meaning in this picture or just label it "funny" and move on... On the religious side, it could be that some christian religions believe in tolerance for other religions, and Buddhists believe in peace and love for your fellow man. On teh funny side, it's just the simple idea that great religious figures worhipped world round would do something as simple and worldly as going out to get ramen. call me crazy

It is because of the lives and deaths of these men, we have a planet that is still livable, the continued existence of a normally crazy race, and love blooming where even the prettiest flowers have trouble growing. I don't need to be biased to know this is a good picture, keep up the good work.

I'm a practicing Catholic, and can see this as all in good fun, better than some other parodies of Christianity I'd seen where it's just weird, ridiculous, or mean. o.o Still though, it is a bit weird, Saint Oniisan. It's a bit like Hetalia when you think about it. ^^
On to the picture, I like the warm soft style you have here, and bonus points for Buddha's palm gesture. Jesus' hair is beautiful too o.o
