Description

Part 1  | Part 2  | Part 3  | Part 4

At last, the final page of my 4 part guide on creating nuzlocke comics!

There's still a lot of advice I wish I could have included within all the guides, especially technique for story writing. Maybe one day I'll go back and add more information, but for now I'm going to leave them alone so I can get back to working on Kick@$$ Mode.

The nuzlockes mentioned in the guide belong to both and , respectively~

If you have any questions or concerns, or if you have any additional advice you think I should have included, then please let me know!

I know this is old but thank you for it. I've been trying to work up the courage to try my hand at making comics again and its kind of intimidating but with this its really helped me make up my mind.

Thanks very much for the guide! I might not make a Nuzlocke/Half-Nuzlocke comic, but I will make a Half-Nuzlocke (I struggled so much with the regular Nuzlocke so I want to do a Half-Nuzlocke instead) story on Wattpad but it’s going to be private until I decide if I’m ready to publish. I hope at least some of these tips would be able to help me write Nuzlocke stories! I just need to decide where to begin first. Although, I did think about making a comic but I couldn’t find a good app on my iPad for it, so I’m just going to start with fanfic.

Are there any other options for drawing programs? I use Photoshop Elements 9 and I'm pretty happy with it, except for the fact that it doesn't have a pen tool! Inking out my sketches is SO tedious and boring, so I want to change programs. My issue is that I've only ever used PE9 or Paint and I have no idea what's good or not. If anyone knows a program that's cheap, similar to Photoshop, has a pen tool, and wont give me a virus I'll be grateful.

This is pretty late for a comment but I've found Paint.NET is good to use and it's free.

(This is a pretty late replay, so not sure if it's relevant any longer, but ) I've found GIMP to be a pretty good alternative. I've never had photoshop, but others tells me that it's quite similar. It has all the basics, like layers, different brushes, (pen tool) etc. while being completely free. It really works well for me anyway ^^

I ended up getting another version of Photoshop that has a pen tool, but I'll be sure to check GIMP out

Thank you for this! I just got done reading all 4 parts to this and I'm so grateful *.* There were a few things I was on the fence about that I've now made decisions on. (Namely, "is it okay to make a simple OC instead of using the default trainer?" and "Color or grayscale?")

I've been working through my own Wonderlocke run on Pokemon Y for a while now, and I decided after the first gym that doing a comic on it would be fun. This really helped motivate me to get going on it!

Been meaning to comment on this because this guide was one of the main reasons I decided to do nuzlocke comics.
I'd say my main problem is communication, I just don't like bothering people even when I want to just say I like something they've done so i've been a hard core lurker of a lot of nuzlocke comics.

you know, i had started a nuzlocke run my senior year of high school on my platinum version. in fact the cover and first page are still in my gallery. but i lost all the pages i had done and were working on when i got my computer fixed a few months ago. but by that time i had already lost interest because i was trying to do everything at once so i stopped.

but reading these guides gave me a new motivation to start over and actually finish a comic. so i decided that to make this even more fitting i will do a platinum run.

thank you for giving me the motivation with these guides, plus i still have the first like, i wanna say, 10 pages of my first one in my note book folder to give me ideas.

So, just finished reading all these, amazingly helpful guide! It's nice to see someone lay it all out and be blunt, a lot of people I spoke to about nuzlocke comics were all "ooh, it'll be so fun and creative!", you are the first one to really say, "Yeah, this is fun! But it's also a lot of work".

This helped me out a lot, just all of this made me think my story all over again. I just love how out of all this I know my reasoning for doing a comic of my game is the same. Make friends who I can talk to through any means and just having a good time.

Thanks For the Guide!! I am planning my own Nuzlocke now, with no prior experience in drawing in any kind or form...Good luck me! Any Advice for page formatting? I was thinking of scanning in drawn pictures, coloring them then stitching them together, any suggestions.
Also i must say I LOVE Your run! It is very Entertaining, one of my favorite bits of your story is Ken and his dark side, i really want to know how long this side will be 'swept under the carpet' for and his teams reaction.

I found these tips extremely helpful, especially the one about communicating with other nuzlockers. I am generally a shy person and don't usually take the time to comment on anything because I'm afraid of what people will think about my comment. (Sometimes I mull over commenting for minutes, changing around my wording and making sure that it looks okay only to decide not to post at all). But I think you're right, I should get out there more.

Although I do have one question... Is it bad if I start my comic long before I complete the game?
I was so excited to start my comic that I uploaded a few pages when I haven't even defeated the Pewter gym yet. Is that a bad thing? Should I leave the comic hanging until I beat the whole game? I'm really excited to get my comics out there and I'm not sure if I have the patience to wait until I beat the game, so what should I do?

Also, is it too unoriginal of an idea to have a mute starter? I had the idea a while ago, but it seems like there are already a few nuzlockes with mute starters. (Ex- Charles from your nuzlocke, and Hama from Death's Nuzlocke.)

Thanks a lot for all the tips, they really helped me make my mind about my own nuzlocke (especially this last ones about the comic format), though I0m going to keep in mind your tips and finish my run first XP (I thought being far enough in the game would be enough, but you've convinced me it's better to have it completely finished before I start and end losing all motivation in case my run fails).

Thanks for these tips, I've already begun making notes (I put them in Journal entries so people can scope them before the comic comes out) and I already have a story idea. When I finished reading these, I was like, "Holy crap, this guy's already guessed at two parts of my story!" I'm hoping to do more Nuzlockes after this (I'm doing what is called a Starterlocke, where you replace the starter you get with a new one), and I'm especially excited for when I get OR/AS (doing a Starterlocke with one of them, and my new starter is going to be Trapinch! ). If you'd like to look at my notes and tel me what you think, this is the link:

Wow, hi. I'm what you would generally call a longtime lurker on your nuzlocke. I'm a big fan and yours is one of my very favorite nuzlockes. Your artwork is fantastic and your story has me on the edge of my seat. I would start pointing out why it's awesome, but you already know your own nuzlocke.
I only just recently got an account and only have one work. I have started a nuzlocke on my own side of the screen with one page sketched out, but I won't be posting it for a while, if at all. Thing is, I use traditional mediums, and I don't have a scanner that I can use at present.
The point is Firered Kick@$$ Mode has been one of my greatest inspirations when it comes to making my own nuzlocke. I just started thinking about it in my head and fleshing it own and spanning it over multiple games- and I hadn't even started making any sort of log yet as my DS was busted at the time.
This "guide" of yours is helpful and pushes me to get off my butt in the best ways. Thanks.

Just draw your first page over and over until you are happy with it. If you stick with the nuzlocke you will undoubtedly get  better at drawing having spent a long time doing it.
Good luck and may your starter not die to a rattata's lucky crit.

Oh you blessed angel of grace you. This is so massively helpful you don't even know.
(Thanks again to CrystalWolf953 for linking me here~)
I kind of dread whenever I do get started, as I have neither experience nor talent for comic drawing (and when combined with written ideas I am passionate about, I am terrified to fail in conveying these ideas properly), but I do feel quite a bit more confident and inspired with the help of these guides. I find Nuzlockes in general to be both heartwrenching and heartwarming, and I dream of being able to do the same.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write these up and upload them!
