Description
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4
At last, the final page of my 4 part guide on creating nuzlocke comics!
There's still a lot of advice I wish I could have included within all the guides, especially technique for story writing. Maybe one day I'll go back and add more information, but for now I'm going to leave them alone so I can get back to working on Kick@$$ Mode.
The nuzlockes mentioned in the guide belong to both and , respectively~
If you have any questions or concerns, or if you have any additional advice you think I should have included, then please let me know!

Yin, These guide have been very helpful for me. For a while now I've been trying to make a nuzlocke comic, even started one but ended it due to loss of motiation.
But now I know how to keep motivated, keep my spirits up and actually get some work done!
SO thank you Yin for making these to help every nuzlocke comic making Noobs, like me, out there

I read all these guides and I found them incredibly helpful, thank you so much! ;w;
I've been wanting to do my own nuzlocke-comic for a long time now but at the moment I think
I should just focus on my style development and general practice. Reading this guide only makes me more excited
to get started on my own comic one day.
You're nuzlocke comic is one of my favourites! Just thought I should say that btw, keep up the awesome work :')
And thanks again! c:

Yay! Yin, these were fantastic and I love both this and you, will you marry me?
In any case, I've wanted to do my own comic for a long time now. I actually finished a run I intended to make a comic for, but I got frustrated with my art because I didn't like it at the time (still don't, really) and gave up after the first page. ._. But this is making me feel more like trying again. Maybe in the near future I'll try again!
And it's all thanks to YOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I'm not an artist, but I am an avid Pokemon fan, and a newish fan of your nuzlocke comic. I've meant to go back and comment on things through out your run, but I never comment on my first time reading through a run, at least until I get caught up with the artist.
I just have to say this is one of the most amazing things I've seen on Deviantart. Not a lot of people would take the time to write a guide like this for others, especially with a comic that was as good as your's is.
Thank you for this! Like I said, I'm not an artist, but if I ever DO decide to try my hand at a nuzlocke comic, this is certainly one of the first things I would come to look at!

these all re very useful guides. I think I should actually take a hiatus on the comic and play the game trough, until I either white/black out or become the champion. And take notes instead of storing everything in my head! Geez, I was such an idiot. I don't even remember what killed the pokemon that was the second to die...
Now let's watch the lip sync, okay? youtu.be/162rSgMysDY?t=17s

I really appreciate your guides and I find myself taking your advice to heart. I'm not the best artist, but I love these comics (yours included of course). They give me inspiration until I sit at the tablet and think, "Gorram it, I stink!" Of course you went over that in another part.
There is one thing that your guide doesn't go over that I personally am fighting with myself against. Would you suggest working on improving your art style and then beginning a comic, or jumping straight into and be able to look past at your work and think, "Wow, see how far I've come...".
Thank you again for all your hard work!

YinDragon In reply to TinnaMinor [2014-01-19 21:58:38 +0000 UTC]
I recommend just doing it, and here's why:
There's this thing called the "creator's curse", where no matter how much you improve, you're never really satisfied with your work--so if you wait until you're "ready", then you'll probably never get there. If you just jump into comic drawing, then you'll improve as you go~
Hope this helped!

Ahh, this was so good, I'm glad you made it! I think that lot of nuzlocke guides give advice on the technical side of making comics, but this focuses more on things people tend to overlook such as staying motivated. I think it's a really important aspect of nuzlocking that most people don't notice until it's too late. Again, thanks for the awesome guide.

I have somehow never seen either of the two Nuzlockes you mentioned. *goes to see*
It's really great of you to post these things up. I'm determined to do start mine up again, and this time I'm going to think of a story and compelling universe first, darn it!
And there really has been a whole rash of Nuzlockers signing off, all within the space of a month. I've been supportive about it. But it's like losing a friend, or a book you love, or in some cases, a whole compelling universe you were really involved in. I'm really glad to hear that you don't have plans to give it up, at least not right away.

This was great help for development, but I would've liked a couple more pointers on other more technical aspects. Mainly your thoughts on dialogue, where and how to make speech bubbles and how much dialogue is too much dialogue. I'm not planning on making a nuzelocke comic (can't do it, I get waaay too emotionally invested in my teams) but I am interested on comic making in general. If you've got any tips on speech bubble layout that would be great.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
YinDragon In reply to MistyDawnAmara [2014-01-19 21:52:27 +0000 UTC]
I originally had sections for speech bubbles and dialogue, but when I realized that the technical stuff would include too many parts, I decided to cut it out. Here's the gist of what it was about, though:
The most important thing to keep in mine is "show, don't tell". If one of your characters is a practical joker, then we need to see them playing pranks on others--not just have them say, "I'm a practical joker!" and never prove it.
Avoid walls of text and info dumps. You can do this by splitting up a single speech bubble into smaller, bite-size bubbles within the same panel, or by spreading the dialogue across multiple panels. Text walls disrupt the flow of the comic, and that's never good.
Anything else you want to know about the technical aspects of making comics, you can read right here: www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Comic

Thank you so much, Yin! I'm actually preparing to start a Nuzlocke comic soon and these guides have really helped me out
Also, something that I've noticed for myself is that, while tablets are great, I've found that I can do without because my computer has a touch screen - and while I'm still getting the hang of drawing without a pencil and paper, finger-painting in FireAlpaca is so much fun!! So if anyone has a touch-screen computer or tablet, try that out, it's super fun and, in my opinion, easier to tell what I'm doing because I'm drawing on the screen itself, not a blank black square in my lap.

Gotta say Yin, with people like you spearheading this branch of the Pokémon community, Nintendo might finally listen to its fans and permanently put a hard-core mode on Pokémon games. Why do I say that? Because the love and enthusiasm you get from and put into this community is oozing out of these guides. And I gotta say, it's pretty infectious.
In summary, *raises glass of soda* HERE IS TO YIN, A PARAGON OF THE NUZLOCKE COMMUNITY, AND A FANTASTIC STORYTELLER! LONG LIVE THE ABSOL!!!

You and I share the same love for creating things for other people! I love when my work puts smiles on peoples faces and I even get the odd "Thank you!" every now and then ^w^
However, lately that star has dwindled considerably and I feel less appreciated for the (I guess you could say "hard work", don't quote me ) that I put into my drawings...
I've recently started college (into a multi media program, I'm so excited!!) and I feel that I'll definitely be able to build on my abilities and expand onto greater horizons, however, have a small problem:
I get upset whenever I feel that I've put my heart and soul into something and people just put it aside like a piece of trash... my biggest goal in life is to make people happy with my work but I think I've strayed off my path
I was wondering if you had a few wisdoms you could pass down to a girl who just wants to make people happier and make her art better so she may be able to, one day, achieve her goal?
~

YinDragon In reply to Jingostar [2014-01-19 21:38:56 +0000 UTC]
Ugh, yeah. I know the feeling. When I started art school, I was used to everyone fawning over my art, but when you're surrounded by other artists, it's hard to stand out.
Don't let it get to you. Like I said before, you should celebrate the smaller achievements along the way. If you're proud of how much you're improving and you can see the difference in your art, then that should be good enough. I know that's easier said than done, but one of the purposes of college is to push yourself and refine your skills, which is why the professors may sometimes seem harsh or uncaring.

Well my plans have changed currently for my first nuzlocke i'm thinking of doing a collaboration nuzlcocke sorta thing with my friend but she seems to have an over abundance of things that get in the way of her play time, I might have to make edits to this project though it's just a prototype. I'll keep working with the original idea i had just as a precaution. Thanks for making these guides

Be careful when doing a collaborative nuzlocke. Most never last long, since one or both people will get busy or lose motivation, so make sure you have a backup plan in case that happens.
And no problem. Glad to help~

This is a good start for me, I think I'll hold off until I can draw people worth crap, but the traditional vs. digital shtick was helpful. Since I don't have an efficient means of drawing digital art. (That being on my school laptop with a mouse,) So that really helps.
