Description

Part 1  | Part 2  | Part 3  | Part 4

At last, the final page of my 4 part guide on creating nuzlocke comics!

There's still a lot of advice I wish I could have included within all the guides, especially technique for story writing. Maybe one day I'll go back and add more information, but for now I'm going to leave them alone so I can get back to working on Kick@$$ Mode.

The nuzlockes mentioned in the guide belong to both and , respectively~

If you have any questions or concerns, or if you have any additional advice you think I should have included, then please let me know!

Thank you much for sharing that with us!! I'm still a bit hesitant to start a run on my own (since I only played one single Pokemon game),
but I'm considering it (partly because I recently stumbled over your awesome run and got the idea to probably try one myself )

I'm going to tear the lurking band-aid off slowly and comment here first. If I get eaten by monsters, it's your fault.

I loved reading these guides, even the stuff that I already knew, probably because you brought the same genuine enthusiasm that makes Kickass mode great. I get the feeling like there's going to be a sudden and inexplicable surge of new Nuzlockes soon.

I guess my (and I think a few other people's) biggest stumbling block is the lurker thing. I can't speak for anyone else, but I know that, by the time I got into Nuzlockes, they'd started experiencing a lull in popularity. A lot of the comics that I follow have either gone on haitus or stopped, so commenting on them felt like I was bothering the artist or jumping on an immobile bandwagon. Irrational, I know, but I'm just explaining my own thinking.

I still very much love reading Nuzlockes, though, and I really do want to make one of my own. I do hope the fad makes a comeback; now that the community has established the various cliches and overdone tropes (e.g. the 'creepy Oak' joke that everyone did at one point), I feel like we'll be seeing new, fresh ideas from creative people.

I had more to say, but I totally forgot what. Oh well: thanks so much, for the comic, for the guide, and for posting so many links to so many other amazing nuzlockes. You're a pretty swell person.

Yin, I don't care that I've said this before. You're amazing.

Thanks for putting these together. They're nothing new to me, since I'm now bordering eight pages total from my two runs, but a friendly, concise reminder of my purpose is always nice. Not to mention, I'm sure there's tons of other Nuzlockers who really needed this advice. So really, thanks.

Best of luck with Kick@$$ Mode!

Woah, that tutorial was really helpful for me Thanks for the advice

I´m also one those hardcore lurkers... It´s rarely when I comment something, but not anymore! Yin, your comics are amazing! The humor, the plot, the art, and everything, is so cool!! Keep it up!!

Now I´m more worked up to make my own nuzlocke (probably Pokemon Y), because I always questioned myself if it´s a really worth thing to do, but with your advice, I'll try to make a script and draw something...

So thank you very much with this! I´ll look for your next upload!!

Thanks for making all of these! I've been thinking about doing a nuzlocke for a while but have always been a bit concerned of actually doing one because I really know nothing about writing a comic/story. Though after reading these I think I can maybe start one! Also keep up the awesome work on your own nuzlocke!

Thank you so much for all four parts of this guide. I showed these to my friend (who also loves your work) and, after much deliberation, we decided to try to do a nuzlocke comic of our own, so hopefully that works out.

Thanks a lot for all these advices ! Now, I want to draw my own run, in addition to write it... That's clever !

Also, I hope you won't give up your nuzlocke, 'cause it's really funny (even if the last chapter was pretty dark... But still cool !)

This actually is really helpful. I might actually try my hand on my Nuzlocke now.

I do have a question, though.

What should one do about grammar and spelling errors? I am not THAT well with spelling and grammar, while writing has beta-readers, where can you find a beta-readers over for Comics?

Woodrow1996 In reply to ShinyMisty [2014-01-25 18:56:20 +0000 UTC]

I'd be willing to do it. I beta-read a bit on FF.net, and I'd be more than willing to bounce ideas back and forth, particularly since I'm thinking of starting a Nuzlocke myself.

Thanks for this awesome guide Yin! Gosh- I have so much motivation with the Nuzlocke- but the actual game...I am just overwhelmed. And it's weird because I have done HG nuzlockes ten-times over! Well, not gonna be as hard as drawing so many people..[shudder] But I WILL do it!

Im having problems actually uploading my pages..

Its probably a lot easier than I'm making it out to be, but I don't really see an "upload" button or something

It gives you the option to use a url when uploading. Just copy and paste the jpg/png address from dA into the box.

Oh, Yin, Just so you know-  join.me is a good alternative to livestream. it isn't nearly as smooth looking, but it's certainly easier on your computer. I've had friends run it on old XP laptops without any problems, so....

also, thank you again for posting these. it's nice getting guidance.

(thanks for telling me by the way, i've never been in a join.me that's hit the limit.)

You have no idea how much I love this guides! I'm actually starting a Crystal nuzlocke, and right now I can only do it with traditional art, so I would like to know; on traditional comics, what do you think is more appealing? First pages don't seem to have much structure, and I would love to know how you manage the dialogue space. (I feel there's too little for all I want to tell, LOL)

Again, thank you so much!!

Thank you soooooo much for writing these; they're beyond helpful, and they give a perspective that I don't really see. I have plans to make a Nuzlocke comic as soon as I finish my game, but I usually have a hard time finishing or sometimes even getting to long term projects. I've been having some doubts about it but, reading these has really given me some confidence so seriously, thank you

"how is this comic benefiting my future?"

like any other hobby, keeping you sane! Because lets face It, your not as likely to go to jail if you draw a Picture of your charter beating the crap out of some one as your are if you do so In real life, Im sure your future will be different depending on witch you choose.  just sayin'

Hi there, I've been following your comic since... *thinks* Before Mt. Moon, for sure. And I really love what you're doing! (I even visited a couple livestreams before my computer started trolling me)

I intend to make a nuzlocke as soon as I finish playing HG (and maybe X), and I really liked your guide, it gives plenty of useful advice and I know I'll be better at making my story when it comes down to it.

Thanks so so much for these guides! And keep it up, Yin, you're awsome!

Yeah, yours was one of the first nuzlockes I followed, along with Pettyartist's.

I never know what to say, so that's why I never comment on anything XD

But I really enjoy your story and your characters (Love all the fun you have with the GaryxKen pairing XD).

I hope my run can be half as good as yours!

LunyaTheDragon [2014-01-19 13:13:10 +0000 UTC]

Very good guide! I've read a lot of tutorials over the years(though I was never able to keep comics going because I keep on moving on to other projects or it didnt turn out good at all),but this is probably one of the few guides that put together the essential basics of making a comic, not just a Nuzlocke.
And another thing that you didn't mention in it but it could be useful information for people planning to start a long series - I've seen plenty of comic artists have a 'buffer' and keep 5-4 pages ready to be posted before starting to do so; it's good to always have something to keep a schedule and not end up getting stressed while making the future pages

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

YinDragon In reply to LunyaTheDragon [2014-01-19 22:01:15 +0000 UTC]

You can have a buffer if you want, but most nuzlockers don't bother since they don't have a strict update schedule.

Glad you found the guides helpful~
