What? Another work in progress piece???

XP yes... yes it is. I was just doing flat coloring for a commission reference, and... it turned into this.

So this is Joseph and Kitty, hiding out under a bridge and waiting for the sun to rise. And here's some spontaneous drivel to go along with it:

To say the night was cold was an understatement. The wind twisted through the city like an upset child looking for his favorite toy; no corner, let alone person, was safe from its tirade. The underside of the bridge was the worst place to try and hide from the ripping invisible fingers, but it was the safest that Joseph could think to bring the small group. The necromancer had kept a wary eye on them, and her walking dead was everywhere, waiting for them to step foot on the paved cobblestones.

They were lucky that the city even had a river running through it once or all of them would have been dead hours ago. The bounty hunter cast another look at his horse, General, who was looking quite miffed that they had stopped running, despite his old age. Every so often he would grunt at Joseph, as if re-voicing his irritation. Joseph in turn ignored him and tried to think warm thoughts since his mount would refuse to let anyone come near enough to share in warmth.

Kitty shivered again, interrupting his thoughts of warm beaches and the hot sun baking into the earth. He frowned, reminded once again why they were in the situation in the first place. He tried to ignore her as well, but her back against his jarred his thinking. He turned to tell her to keep still when the glint of tears froze the words before they became speech.

"Wha- are you crying?" It was something he'd never seen her do, be remorseful yes, but never cry. "Hey!"

Kitty jumped, and quickly rubbed at her face, as if erasing the evidence would erase the memory from his brain. "N-no! 'm not!"

Joseph turned back around, figuring it was best to leave the girl be for now. The wind howled louder under the bridge, as if trying to remind them that it existed and the girl was still, though she still shuddered, trying to stifle sobs that wouldn't stop.

"Sorry."

"What?" Joseph jerked awake, the cold had numbed his skin so much he barely felt it.

"Ah said," Kitty pronounced slowly, turning her head to call above the wind, "Ah'm sorry. Didn' mean ta get's stuck 'ere. Ah thought-"

"I know what you thought," he said, cutting her off. "It's alright, just a few more hours till sun-up. I've noticed that Dolly's powers are weaker during the day, and the dead themselves decompose faster in the heat, so her control of them will be harder. We should be able to fight our way through."

"Oh."

Silence divided them, and as if wanting to augment the space, the wind died, leaving nothing to fill the awkward gap.

"Gods above, get over here," he said, hooking an arm around her waist and pulling the small girl into his lap. She felt like an ice cube, and he was sure that the only one benefiting from the contact was her and Scuttlebutt, but he'd be eaten by zombies before he let a kid get hypothermia right before they had to fight their way into a fortress and back out of a city crawling with the walking dead. "I'm not mad at you, if that's what you're crying about. If anything, we're a lot closer to catching Dolly. I should be grateful. I'm sorry."

"Oh." Kitty let her head drop onto his shoulder and pulled her arms tighter around Scuttlebutt. "Ah'm still sorry."

"I know."

and before you sickos even ask, NO. She's a teenager and he's more than 90 years old. If anything he regards her as a daughter or sister right now (note the use of the phrase "right now" UFUFUFUFUFUFUFU). Plus at this point she still has the mental capacity of a twelve year old. You pedos.

Is the writing canon? I don't know XP I'm still writing the first chapter of the first book! It's just drivel.

Before we even get into this, I don't like vampires. I think the whole concept of them is stupid. This is my attempt at making sense of a nonsensical thing for the purpose of my story.

In the world Joseph and Kitty inhabit, people were, and even now are obsessed with living forever and using "magic" to do so. Things, such as lycanthropes are the horrible mistakes resulting from experimentation. The closest anyone has come to it are sanguivores and liches.

Sanguivores are simply normal people who are kept in a constant state of living through the use of blood magic. It is the trading of life to extend one's own that is the basis of the working. Since the development of the method, very few have been given the chance to become immortal through the ancient ritual. All sanguivores recently have been tracked down by the government and live under heavy restrictions or are killed. Generally Sanguivores are scholars, musicians, magicians or others who wish to perpetuate their existence for the sake of learning or development. Of course, there are a few exceptions like Joseph (who exists to hunt John Doe). When they consider their work as done, more often than not they choose to let themselves die quietly, rather than carry on. They prefer to live in obscurity as most people fear them and are quite prejudice against them (as they should be).

Before government restrictions sanguivores were often hunted, leading to the birth of their "mysterious powers" which is no more than magician sanguivores who amplify their own and other's abilities in order to escape the hunting.

One of the requirements for all sanguivores is body modification, specifically the reshaping of the ear, to make them identifiable in any situation. They are also required to visit a blood clinic once a month in order to remain safe to walk among the general public. Along with that, their super-normal abilities are kept on record should they ever get out of hand.
