Description I've had some interest in how I accomplished this piece and thought it would be helpful to create a walkthrough! This my first time making a tutorial, I hope I didn't leave out any important information, if you have any questions feel free to ask!

Some books and resources I recommend that helped influence this piece but weren't exactly things I could include in a tutorial.

Art of books for Elysium and District 9 - Neil Blomkampf gets an insane level of detail out of his crew when it comes to creating the visuals for his worlds. This is what made me want to do the logos.

Sam Brown (sambrown.cghub.com/) - I kind of stole his methods for this environment from the Massive Black Workshop, but it doesnt appear he has them up anywhere. Go look at his awesome robots.

Karakter (karakter.de/#/) - This was the level I was pushing for throughout the environment. Very successful compositions and really strategic detail. I've got a long way to go.

CG Textures (www.cgtextures.com/) - Make an account, for textures, for your health.

Sketchup (www.sketchup.com/) - I have noticed a few quirks now that there is a paid version, I can't seem to create spheres, but otherwise enormously useful free program.

-> and a .obj exporter for sketch-up should you need it (sketchuptips.blogspot.com/2007… .

Podium (www.suplugins.com/free-evaluat… - This is what you could light your SU models with, however its pretty comlplicated so make sure to watch some tutuorials.

If I think of anything else I'll add it.

Thanks for reading and keep drawing!

I use Sketchup for my own artwork and I've got to say, you took this so far above and beyond what Sketchup is normally able to produce in such a short amount of time!

Thanks! Keep playing around with it and try out using smaller components to create larger more complex structures.Β
