History:

Athena was created as supplement and eventually replacement of Norway class. Its design was taken from Akira and few other classes. Athena is heavily armed and well protected, and in combat situation it was a true destroyer. However although excellent and effective combat ship, Athena is very capable surveyor and scientific ship (two well supplied - state of art science labs installed).

Class had its first combat debut against Odonan forces in 2381 when twenty of this ships (most of the class active ships at the time) were dispatched to war zone. Although some of ships were badly damaged none of them was destroyed. Single ship was laster outfited with slipstream and was deployed to Delta quadrant. USS Wildcat the ship that was ent to Delta was part of small exploration group that was charged with exploration of vichinity of the newly established Starfleet base. Class enjoyed big sucess and its crew simply love the ship due its incredible capabilities.
