History:

Early during the 2380's Starfleet start with refit of some Galaxy class ships which will be known as Galaxy X or Galaxy II class. These upgrades will feature new warp core, stronger and more resilient shields, armor, enhanced weaponry and third warp nacelle for better warp speeds. Sovereign class was to receive similar upgrades but this upgrades end been brand new class. Comparing to Sovereign which was primary oriented for exploration despite been well armed and protected, Intimidator is pure warship, as its name suggest, it was to Intimidate potentional enemies. However expensive upgrades of the class means that not many of this ships would be built but those that were built were often used in hot spots as command ships or direct assault ships. Because Intimidator shares Sovereign hull, it has similar interior as Sovereign, although more spartancial decour. While ship is primary warship and for combat deployments, it is capable of exploration hwever none of the Intimidator class ships were ever deployed on exploration.

Intimidator boost impressive arsenal which consists of fourteen Type XII phaser arrays (this were Type XIIA4) latest Type XII phasers and one of most powerful ones in service. Four Type XV Multi fire phaser strips also known as piercing phasers, capable of penetrating shields quickly, these phsaser have less power but as mentined they were mostly for depleting enemy shields quicker, against smaller ships this phasers were menace. Single Type XX phaser cannon, the stronger phaser weapon in Starfleet arsenal, this wepaon requires lot of energy but it was capable of either cripple or destroy any ship in Alpha quadrant with one shot. Two rapid fire quantum torpedo tube, and eight Type IV burst fire torpedo tubes. Intimidators usually carry load of four hundred Quantum torpedoes, six hundred Photon torpedoes an one hundred Hellfire torpedoes, some Intimidators also carry up to twenty Transphasic torpedoes.

Its shields were also one of most efficient ones in the fleet, while not powerful as those of larger ships like Excalibur, Pathfinder, Relentless and so, they were still quite powerful. While Intimidator shields lack capacity, they have fast regenerative shields and multiple emitters which can quickly get depleting shields back to full strenght. Intimidator also have 12cm of Ablative armor, while most of hull have only eight cm, sensitive areas like bridge section, warp nacelles, warp pylons, main engineering are all coated in extra armor for additional protection.

Intimidator shuttle bay is large as those on Sovereign class however unlike Sovereign, Intimidator's don't carry fighters.

While Sovereign was excellent warship and exploration vessel, Intimidator is warship and as such it was often deployed near hot borders. Class is more then capable of defeding itself even against Borg cube. However due its role and been more expensive then Sovereign, only small number of ships were built. Ironically unlike Galaxy class, not a single Sovereign was upgraded to Intimidator level, all Intimidator class ships were new hulls. Only nine ships were built in total. USS Intimidator was launched in 2384 and enter service at the beginning of 2385.
