Description
For the Maori, the koru spiral represents the unfolding fern frond and symbolises renewal and new beginnings. This was taken at Pukeiti Rhododendron Trust Park in Taranaki. The garden there is amazing and home to the National Rhododendron collection. Worth visiting in November.

Ka pai te ora o Aotearoa!
New Zealand is indeed beautiful. I moved here to the land of my ancestors about three years ago. First time in my life I've ever really felt at home.
Kia kaha e hoa!

does it sound crazy to you if I tell you I feel homesick when I see pics of Aotearoa?
I have never been there nore am I Maori.... at least not in this lifetime.
If I see or hear Haka I feel alive.
I desperately want my own piece of pounamou but not just a tourist stuff but from a Maori made for me, something really spiritual.

Ka pai.
I can't carve pounamu, but I can carve paua or some stones - the local lava makes good, if simple carvings. My best work (in my gallery) is in bone.
There are a range of traditional designs, each of which has a specific meaning.
tracing my whakapapa is a major thing for me now - I know my father was Maori, but not which iwi (tribe). This is my quest.

I like your triple spiral its nice. I wouldnt mind bone if it would be from whalebone (natural finds or way old bones) like traditional maori carving is
one of my ever fave designs is here [link] it totally reminds me on a mother carrying new life and the bond between mom & child. Somehow I love koru most but as well the mix from koru and twist pikorua if I recall the maori term right
Many blessings on your quest may you be successful.
