Umm... Did I mention Emily is a mom?Yeah, I don't think I did.
Anyway, yes, Emily, my robotic character, is 22 years old and has a daughter named Amelia.
How is this possible you ask?
Well, it's simple; Emily was built as a research drone/research assistant drone. One day, the science team developed a new add-on part for robots that would allow them to replicate/reproduce like organic creatures do, a huge accomplishment as before it was thought that only creatures of flesh and blood could reproduce.
Emily, who thinks like a human does and thus has the same instincts and emotions, heard about the project. For a while then she'd wanted a family of her own, so, well... she started one.
No, she doesn't have a husband though, as this artificial reproductive system that she has was still undergoing tests and as a result it would have been too risky at that point for her to, well... you get the idea. As a result, Amelia was conceived artificially.
The two live together at the same underwater laboratory where Emily works. Amelia often stays with one science crew who is working on her components while Emily works with another science crew that does other projects.
Robots like this don't "grow up" in the same way that humans do. Instead, they get upgrades and new parts as they mature mentally. When they reach the mental equivalent of a certain age, they get the parts for that age up to age 20 and from that point out they're just serviced periodically.
So, well, there you have it, a robotic family. As can be seen here, the two are quite happy together. I just wanted to draw the two, so I just drew them, Emily guiding Amelia around the lab, holding her shoulder so they don't get split up.

What would Emily look like during her...."pregnancy"? I mean, is it EXACTLY like a human's, with the bigger belly, morning sickness, frequent rushing to the little 'bot's room (), etc?

Yes, more or less. Her abodomin is built of a carbon-fibre base, and is quite flexible. The morning sickness, frequent need to use the bathroom and such didn't occur though.

Thanks. ^^
Now if only I could get everyone to stop being so scared of robots and start thinking of them like this instead of all those terminator/matrix knock-offs out there.

i tried...and to no avail...however this seems to pose a new way to counter those fears, that and the humor of HK-47 from KOTOR
by the way i think this is the most creative backstory i've ever seen! well done an instant fave!

I think Data from Star Trek TNG is probably one of my favorite androids. He has this subtle silliness to him that I like, and of course he's very friendly.
I guess in our age of technology people would rather be wary/afraid of robots than think of the positives. I respect that, I suppose. (And it is nice sometimes to have something faceless and emotionless to label an enemy for the sake of a story.)

Data was cool. ^^
As goes a thing to fear, why does it have to be robots/robotic machinery? If you ask me the best thing for a villain would be humans, as we're probably THE most destructive species on Earth.

People don't like to find fault with themselves, they'd rather fault their own creations...I guess...I'm not really sure.

I suppose that's quite common in human culture...
I just wish it would stop is all. >_<
