Description well, look...it's a piece that is actually done, rather than being in progress , for a change.

this was going to be the nexy in the Collide0scope series, but I felt it didn't fit, so I named it after one of my favorite tracks from the sole album by the Brand New Immortals, Tragic Show

about a dozen of your works strikingly resemble the backgrounds that came on my Compaq.

I honestly would not have known. How old is your Compaq (do they even still make them)?

2006.

And I've compared- they look photoshopped.

For shame.

they look photoshopped.

Which ones...theirs or mine?

I do use photoshop btw, just not conventionally.

Now I am curious to see these backgrounds.

i'm really impressed by this one... it reminds me of an orchestra playing some lively and pathetic music... definitely not tiny voices but that's only my view

Yeah. I don't know.

I can see the affinity with the Collide0scopes
but agree that it definitely doesn't fit.
This is so much more about space and open distance,
a multidimensional falling or floating... so,
free-falling, I think.

Z, this absolutely blows my mind away. The colours and tiers of that really give the viewer some optic nerve exercise, especially trying to work out where it all leads and ending up nowhere. The colours are rich, vivid and amazingly obscure, they create an entire dreamworld for the viewer.

Looks great dude

At the risk of soundling like a drug addict , I had an acid trip once, ( yeah, I did acid in the past, huge shocker eh? ), but I was at a point where I was sitting by myself and just sort of meditating for lack of a better word, and this, well this looks eerily similiar to where my head and thoughts went. Started out thinking, and then everything went visual, and I convinced myself that I could see what a nueron looked like, and hat the synapses of the brain looked like while functioning, and like I say, it looked a lot like this image. Plus, I would kill to know how you achieve that damn blue tone!

1. re: drugs...would you belive that in spite of all the crappo I create, I do not use chemical additives (I am convinced I have my own gland that produces a mild narcotic buzz in my head when I stare at paper)

2. re: how I got the blue. accident. stuff like this is largely based on using lots of layers in various blend modes and color-torquing each layer idependently (which can be pretty mindnumbing considering that some of the layer modes make color-adjustment a peculiar experience). i literally have a general idea of how to get to where I am going but most of it is a lot of trial and a whole lot of error. i go through periods where I like certain color sets and tend to do whatever possible to incorporate said weird colors - even if it is largely by fumbling.

You have got to paint my wall! This is just beautiful. Great use of colors. You've managed them well. It's so icy and yummy. Excellent.

SarahTheRecluse [2004-02-17 14:49:55 +0000 UTC]

Wow, this is amazing. Really, how do you go about starting something like that? Do you plan it all out first? The colors are perfect... working in blue and orange I think is what really made this peice. And I'm sure it took some tact to get this balanced, wich seems flawless as well.

zeruch In reply to SarahTheRecluse [2004-02-17 21:28:22 +0000 UTC]

there is no overall planning per se. I have long sessions where I use 3d programs like Bryce and Maya to create fields of geometric objects (these days mostly clusters of primitives, but I have been playing with more odd shapes), and I paint page after page of base paintings that focus on colour and texture. after I have several dozen of each, I start piecing together the disparate bits. the process is often tedious and long, but generally worth the effort.

SarahTheRecluse In reply to zeruch [2004-02-18 15:39:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'd say it's worth the effort. Your certainly the best I have seen at what it is you do... perhaps because no one is as devoted? It amazes me how wide the artistic spectum is. I mean, the fact that something as complex and well-planed as this can compete with a simple line drawing is beyond me.
