Description SORRY FOR THE BIG FILE!!

I know, I rambled on too much D;
And sorry for my bad handwriting.

So, I decided to make a tutorial for ice cream.. some people asked me how I made the cone in my ice cream charm picture, others for the texture of the ice cream, so here it is! My first tutorial!! Hope you find it helpful

I'm not claiming any of the techniques used here to be my own.. most of it came out of practising and perfecting, and also reading other crafters' tutorials. Well, ok, except for the pencil part.. I'm quite sure no one else would do something so weird. =.=

Please feel free to ask me any questions regarding things I didn't explain properly, I'll be glad to help. Oh, and spelling mistakes too, if you find one.

Edit: A few people have asked me this, so I'll write it here:

"Why no acrylics?": Acrylics are water based, so when you bake it the water will evaporate and cause bubbles in your work that will probably show up on the surface, or cause minor cracks in it and making it less durable.. or so I've heard. Lots of tutorials I've read has told me this, however I've never tried it myself, so I'm not totally sure

That's ingenious, I never would have thought of freezing and flexing the clay to get the texture.

No I think it's fimo deco gel, which is more liquid and more clear

Satsuki-egaku [2012-07-11 15:51:05 +0000 UTC]

Hello, I was wondering, why don't I manage to make the clay crack ? When I put it into the fridge, it is so hard that it does not crack a little like yours, but it completly cracks into two pieces. Besides sometimes the clay does not crack at all, even after staying in the fridge... What should I do ? Maybe I don't hold the clay ball well... I try to take it softly but it does not crack and I press too heavily, I guess...
And, another thing : I'm annoyed with my fingers because they put their fingerprint on the ice-cream and it is ugly... Do you have a trick to avoid that, please ?
Sorry for my silly questions and my weird english...
Thank you very much !

Zhoira In reply to Satsuki-egaku [2012-07-16 20:13:43 +0000 UTC]

That might be because you didn't condition the clay very well before you out it in the fridge.. sometimes when you first take it out the pack, you need to warm it up and make it softer by rolling it in your hands. And if it does not crack at all, then maybe it's because the clay is too soft itself.. maybe a little too much translucent clay? but yes making it crack does take a lot of practise, and like I mentioned in the tutorial it would be wise to hold the ice cream ball with sand paper when you try to press it down, just avoid touching it with your hands

Zhoira In reply to Okasii-Ramen [2012-04-21 14:39:43 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! Normally i make it more than 2cm, depends on how big your charm is really, before you put it in kinda roughen up the end of the pin with some wire cutters so it has more grip on the clay, and superglue the base of the pin after you've put it in and baked the charm

do you bake it afterwards or just let it harden itself?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Zhoira In reply to keanetje2 [2012-01-30 18:28:46 +0000 UTC]

Polymer clay must be baked for it to harden, air-dry clay does what its name says ^^

Do you put the TLS after or before baking?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Zhoira In reply to LilMelz03 [2012-01-16 23:56:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I realise that wasnt clear in the tutorial, TLS is basically liquid polymer clay so you need to bake it. The gloss is applied after baking
