You could use makeup. When I first started polymer clay I used a cheap palette of makeup I got at the dollar store for a dollar or two. The only inconvenience is that makeup has that glittery kinda glare to it.

Any colored chalk (even sidewalk chalk? xD ) would work, I think. But chalk pastels are really inexpensive and come in sets with lots of colors, so it's worth buying some.

You can find them at most craft stores, usually in a value pack with a few colors.

does the chalk color rub off after its baked? also whats a good way to store clay?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GrandmaThunderpants In reply to shanna66 [2012-04-11 16:21:45 +0000 UTC]

If you apply it to soft clay, then bake it, it will adhere to the clay. You can glaze it for extra protection. And I use plastic bins to store my clay, though I've heard you should avoid cheap plastics since there's a chance the clay might eat through it.

Awe congratulations on the DD!!! Lol I L<3<3<3<3<3VE the little bread tutorial! The mini bread loafs at the top I thought was real bread! Till looked at it closly, got a magnifying glass, hired an expert, shattered the glass screen for a closer look, and then! Thats when I figured out they were fake. Lol very nice work! I never would have thought of half of that. A+++!

GrandmaThunderpants In reply to AngelOfFlowers [2012-01-03 03:47:09 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure what you could use to substitute the chalk pastels, maybe some paint that's very watered down? I don't know. xD

AngelOfFlowers In reply to GrandmaThunderpants [2012-01-03 10:41:05 +0000 UTC]

In the end i decided to decapitate my brown pencil and add that on instead. it had pretty much the same effect it looks like bread

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GrandmaThunderpants In reply to AngelOfFlowers [2012-01-03 16:59:53 +0000 UTC]

I would suggest getting some chalk pastels down the line. :3 They're great for clay and easier to apply than a destroyed pencil haha.
