You can make anything in my tutorials for personal or commercial purposes (yes, that means you can sell what you make) but you can't claim these techniques as your own. UPDATE: The amazing ~Snowfern pointed out some mistakes I had made about the baking times. She explained to me why it was important to bake your items at the correct temperature, for the right amount of time. Even if your minis look fine, they're raw in the inside and they will deteriorate overtime! Not immediately, but in a few years they will crumble... so please, I can't stress how important it is to learn to bake your creations correctly!

I am sorry everyone for the mistake, I hope I didn't cause trouble I am not perfect and I am still learning, so if you see me making any more mistakes please let me know I really want to help, so I certainly don't want to give false information. Please give some love to ~Snowfern !

MY MOST AMBITIOUS TUTORIAL TO THIS DAY IS FINALLY COMPLETED.

One of the tutorials that helped me the most when I was learning how to make cakes was this [link] by Betsy Niederer
If you still have trouble understanding how to texture the cake, I recommend you see this video [link] by *fairchildart
Cake brush by ~Nana-viciouS

Cakes are one of the most complicated things I do, so the tutorial ended up being quite long... actually they're not complicated, they're quite easy but they involve many steps.

This took me months to finish, months! I took the first photos 3 months ago, and the last one just a couple of days ago. It was getting ridiculous: the more I advanced, the more I felt the need to take a new photo, explain a new technique, revise everything... I had to stop myself from dragging the tutorial any longer. It's finished, but I'm sure that I'll want to revise it again in the future.

Well that explains why the lightning is so inconsistent. I'm sorry about that, I hope it's not too annoying.

My next tutorial is going to be something quick and easy or I'll die what to do next?

My template and cakes made by me using this technique:

Could I leave the slices out or put them in a cool bag for a while or something instead of putting them in the oven? (before decorating)

Great tutorial by the way, the cakes look great!

Talty In reply to QuietPurri [2016-06-21 01:54:28 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

You can try that, but the cake texture is so delicate that it will smoosh if you touch it, even slightly. I think it's easier to bake them. If you're worried about turning on your oven too many times, you can store the raw slices until you need to bake something else, and bake them together with that other item.

Talty In reply to FizzingCola [2016-06-15 01:49:24 +0000 UTC]

Are you using polymer clay? It's much easier to clean than silicon. Silicon makes the biggest mess.

FizzingCola In reply to Talty [2016-06-16 05:22:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, actually I don't use silicon hahaha. I'm still an amateur on a budget. xD Thanks for the help Talty. I'm extremely in love with yer work!

for your red velvet cakes do you use a special ratio to get the pretty velvety inside?

thanks for your reply btw <3

To get the color I mixed red clay with a bit of brown, I didn't measure the proportions

These are absolutely adorable! I might give this a try once I manage to get some polymer clay.
Have you considered selling these as keychains or phone charms at a craft fair?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Talty In reply to TheHeroPhase [2015-07-27 22:57:05 +0000 UTC]

I really hope that you'll try it! Please let me know if you do

I  never tried selling them at a craft fair, I can only do local events and there isn't much interest in this kind of work in my area. I did sell them in Etsy for a while, but I had to close my store because I was too busy with my real life xD

No problem! I'm glad that you found it useful I did my best to explain it here, but if you want to try getting the cake texture I really advise you to watch the video tutorial, it's a lot easier to understand when you can actually watch the movements required to get the texture: youtu.be/S32x9czyU34

This is a really awesome tutorial. I actually have quite a bit of polymer clay that I keep meaning to use to make little food charms like this. Of course, most my (astoundingly) bad habit of procrastination has kinda put a stop to that. However your tutorial is really easy to follow and helps a lot so I think I'll try to make cakes again. Thanks!

one question:
the last time you bake it, after the decoration process, how long do you bake it for, and at what temperature?

this is a brilliant tutorial!!! I had been looking for how to make the color and texture for cakes and breads, and this answerd all of my questions involving it

I hope I get to bake tomorrow, I really want cake now, those all looked so yummy~~~
