Jean Grey has had a somewhat tough life with her mutation manifesting much earlier than was to be expected of a mutant. Most mutants manifest their mutations from 11-14, but Jean's manifested at 8 years old. She started hearing voices and Jean's parents assumed that she might have schizophrenia until they started noticing objects floating around Jean. Days later, The Greys were visited by a man by the name of Charles Xavier, who ran a school for gifted youth such as Jean, who he revealed was a mutant. Those voices in her head were not from a mental illness, they were voices from the minds of people around her. Jean was a psionic mutant and a very powerful one at that. She needed to master her abilities or they might cause harm to her and those around her. So it was decided that Jean would go to the Xavier Academy and learn to control her abilities.

For the years since then, Jean as taught by Charles on the telepathic aspect of her abilities and brought in an old friend of his, Matthew Malloy, to teach her about her telekinetic capabilities. During these years, Jean met Scott Summers and they would fall in love. Jean and Scoot would also join a secret group built by Charles called the X-Men. They were a covert team of mutants that would stop human or mutant plans to cause strife and further division between humans and mutants. Joining Scott and Jean was Hank McCoy, Warren Worthington III, and Bobby Drake. To keep their identities a secret and make sure that their enemies couldn't find out who they were or where they lived, they wore masks, visors, and any other manner of concealment, as well as having codenames like Cyclops, Beast, Angel, and Iceman. Jean chose the name Psyche in relation to her mind abilities. Their first mission took some effort to make them a team but Jean was able to mindlink everyone together for coordinated and effective team attacks.

Jean believed that learning was just as important as fighting and so sought to learn as much as she could and thanks to her ability of Psionic Download, Jean learned more in record time than any person on Earth has. In the present day, Jean is part of the staff at the Xavier Institute and serves as a therapist for the mutant students in need of it. Her telepathy gives her the ability to go into any of her patients' heads and create a mindscape for them to deal with their inner demons.

In the present, Jean is second in command of the X-Men, she welcomes the newest member Jubilee kindly and appreciates the new costumes Jubilee and Forge came up with for a new incarnation of the X-Men, one that is less covert and ready to come out into the light.

Jean's Mutation: Psionic. Jean's powerful mind makes her capable of reading people's minds with telepathy, moving objects without touching them by telekinesis, and psionic knowledge download allows her to tap into the brain of a skilled person (surgeon for ex.) and learn years of knowledge in just a matter of hours if not minutes. However, her body can’t replicate the muscle memory associated with eye to hand tasks in this manner (martial arts), and as such would need time to develop them.
