I don't think even they are immortal, and if they are they are immortal through age only. Princess Twilight Sparkle Part 2 confirmed for me that even "full" alicorns can die. Why would Twilight think Celestia was dead if she knew she couldn't die?

Celestia and Luna are the only alicorns that officially live forever does not mean that generally other alicorns like Cadence or Twilight are also immortal, in addition, Celestia and Luna have the task of lowering and rising the sun and the moon, reason of their immortality

Actually, it's unicorn+ unicorn/pegasus (alicorn) = alicorn foal .... I don't think a normal pegasus and unicorn can have an alicorn child. If that was true, equestria would have like hundreds of alicorns. I guess the fact that cadence is an alicorn (and was a pegasus) combined with unicorn shining, rose the chance of getting an alicorn by like 80%

fan ideas mean like per say if someone came up with a idea in how alicorns where made like
''they where born and are rare'' meaning with the new one there it kinda defeats the purpose if they where rare or there are not mean to be many.
I was meaning ''chucking the fan ideas'' as a joke.

If i am not mistaken it is canon that Celestia and Luna were born as alicorns.

But that was thousands of years ago and we have no idea who their parents were, which means this may be the first alicorn foal in at least that long.
I also bet that Celestia and Luna have 'tried' a few times too over that time and didn't get any either.
If real alicorns are unable to have (alicorn) foals, what were the odds that an ascended pegasus and a unicorn would have any better luck?
