The Process

In Apophysis 2.08 3DH with the piritipany chaldni plugin, I created a fractal image, Chaldni Gem.

I then ran the DWalker1047 Deb's Doodle Batch Script over that flame
Note how the resulting batch flames retain original image dimensions.

I chose a flame from the batch, playing & twitching that flame to create another final image, Stardust Memories.

I thought I'd plot out my process for future ref & why not share it, might help someone navigate the labyrinths of Apophysis

Follow the links to the images to find more about production details.

Saving for future reference. Ooh, I want to play, but still have hundreds of renders to finish up.

Actually it's just a bit of a demo & no big deal game or anything. I found myself saving screenshots of the batch so I could choose one to use & put them all on one sheet. Then I saw the rest was begging. It's actually just what any of us do with any batch script, I just thort it looked good as a visual exercise.

So, don't sweat it, nothing special, just a ref sheet that mayhap help a newbie.

I'll look forward to these new renders

Oh, well I like comparing what you've done with the original and imagining what may have come from others in the batch - it makes a great visual and it's brought about yet more inspiration which, unfortunately, I can do nothing about at the moment. The renders I'm working on aren't new - I'm re-rendering a few dozen of my older pieces at print quality and it's taking ages. Even after gifting myself with a new system right after the holidays (quad core with 6GB RAM) it's taking days to work through all the sizes/ratios for one piece. I'm paying the price of my love affair with JuliaN and other slow variations, I guess. I'll be so glad when they're done, but at this rate I'm looking at another month, at least. By the time I'm done I feel like I'll have to learn Apo all over again.

That's my next rig...you must be stoked! Been hanging back as the wet season here gave me allsorts of problems that put my thorts of a new one on back burner. Look forward to seeing the reworked images.

Yr Comment has had me thinking...why do your renders take so long? But I suppose I'm not working with prints yet & I'll probably go for as high rez as I can get when I get round to them. Mine usually take under an hour, 3 hours at most. For dA I only render to 4000 & file size <800k due to dialup. OK for displaying them here but not for Mr. deMill's closeup eh! Plus if they get ripped the takers aren't taking my treasures.

Probably have Apo 208 Mk2 out by time you get thru!

Yes, thanks fr the appreciation. The more I look at it the more dhuh! it seems. Especially as I ran that script again over another different image & the batch didn't seem much different to what's above. Be great if it wasn't all gnarl, I might look into that.

BTW is this stunning Death Rose [link] something from yr Crackle tut ? It's a knockout.

I am thrilled with my new system - even more thrilled that I managed to get it and a 19" wide LCD monitor together for about $750. I'd been limping along with 1GB of RAM for too long - as much RAM as my old system could handle. My only hesitation prior to purchasing it was that it came with Vista 64 pre-installed. However, after working with it for just a few days I decided Vista's gotten a bad rap. I haven't had any problems with it at all.

My renders are taking so long for a couple of reasons. First, for each design I'm rendering, I'm doing about a dozen different "standard" sizes/ratios to fit prints and other products on Zazzle and Cafe Press. The three largest take about 12 hours each, the rest run anywhere from 6 to 1 hour. Secondly, I'm rendering at a minimum quality of 6000 and 300ppi. It's frustrating that it's taking this long to play "catch up." I want to play!

And yes, Death Rose is a very lovely piece and looks like it could have been a result of the tute.

Hope you have a great weekend.

I know how you feel, felt that way when I got my 4.5 gig rig a couple of years ago. But miffed when I went in to get it upped to 6 gigs recently & told that it's only 32 bit & wouldn't take any more. So have to go 64 bit or higher to fit those extra gigs. Pretty much the only reason I'm considering a new one, as, despite the relative slowness (compared to (recently) new Notebook) I'm very happy with the beast.

I wasn't happy about Vista either so have XP on board as well & can choose which I want on bootup, with XP as the default. Never use Vista on the big machine but it's on my Notebook, which I use for long renders while I keep on working on the Tower of Power Why couldn't they keep that Copy to File function in Vista...very annoying, I use that so much.

What I did get is 2x22" LCD screens for the main and another same for the NB. Something amazing happened after that...one day, a few weeks after using them in concert, I felt something shift in my eyes & since then haven't had to use pc glasses, which I've used since mid 80's! Then I found I didn't need my reading glasses for reading books etc either ! No more peering & holding things up to the light & all that, only use them for threading needles is all. I'm quite chuffed about THAT as you can imagine. certainly justified forking out on the big screens. But here they are quite reasonably priced now, it wasn't a huge outlay like it was @4 years ago when they 1st appeared here.

If you haven't already got a 2 screen setup, I highly recommend it, especially for Apo. I have the main Apo window & its Adjustment, Mutation & Gradient windows on right screen & the Edit window full screen on left in front of me. I mainly work on left screen & throw things up on right I need to refer to - excellent for editing docs & viewing images. Worth every cent.

Thanks fr the rendering info, I'll stash it in my rendering hints file.

My weekend is this Round Robin event and another cyclone brewing so rain cometh down down down again. - perfect for Apo-ing.

Likewise hope you have a good one. Cheers!

Thanks Deb. It's a great way to make maps of progress as we explore Apo. I hope it's useful for someone else & it does help showcase the resources, what they do & so on

I just love how you showed the process....I thought it gave a lot of very helpful insight to the creation process. I wish you would consider doing a few more of these. Excellent!!!

Oh, I will. Every now & again when I've been working on something involved, or a series like the synth plugin images key, [link] , I get enthused & out pops another !

btw, just did a better Edit of the Comments to clarify wtf...

I just think this is such a brilliant idea....I have added to my resources folder. I think it is an excellent example of fractal evolution!! ss
