Description
A preloader tutorial made for a friendClick left/right edges or push A/D or left/right keys to navigate.
Because it was tutorial intended to be shown to a single person, some of the message may not sound like it was written for public. I could've changed it but I decided to not change it; I still want to record this tutorial this way.
This is my third time making a flash interface. I incorporated keyboard this time. How is it? Awesome? Annoying? Glitchy? [It WILL get glitchy if you flip too fast...]
Notes:
1.This tutorial is teaching in AS2, but was made in AS3 HAHA! So the preloader for this tutorial was not made using the same method. I used this tutorial to make the preloade, and worked perfectly.
2. I really hope everyone's flash player is up-to-date?
3.GAH...I found out about ._Xscale almost a second ago. WELL THAT'S GREAT. Too lazy to fix the code now.
4. [01/07/11]WHAT THE FUCK there are many spelling/grammar errors! Why didn't anyone say anything?! HAHAHA you guys are too nice.

I don't know if you look at this, since it's so old... but I have a quick problem. Everything runs flawlessly EXCEPT... I have no number percent showing the download(It runs through and shows the download; but not the percent). What things could I look at to correct this issue?

Hello! Thanks for making this! However, I have my preloader like this: [link]
See how it is loading from the center out and not filling the outlines?
I want it to fill from the bottom up and not go outside the lines, like this: [link] How would I do this in AS2? Could you pretty please help?

Yes, very possible! In fact, it doesn't matter what AS you are using because the code can stay the same. You can make a preloader like that using Masks. It's a layer property allows a a layer below to show only the selective area.
Are you familiar with Masks?

I am familiar with layer clipping, is that the same thing? And how would I get it to fill from the bottom up instead of from the center out? ^^

I have a problem with the bar not loading up but it does load up. It's just that the bar is not moving. o:

Hello Falceto-Rekuri,
if you would like me to debug your code, I can take a look at it. It is generally difficult to debug something using an observatory description. [Unless you provided me of instructions to recreate the bug]. I think you can use Sta.sh function on DA to transfer files. I could be wrong; I have never done that before. But give that a try?
If you don't want to do that, it is possible you made typos or forgot to give instance names on your movie clip object [the graphic object on your flash]. It is one of the common mistakes people make in Flash. Hell, I still make that mistake, haha.
I apologize in advance for my sluggish response speed. I have been trying to use DA a bit more often though!

There you go~ Just hit download and you'll get its fla. file~ o:
You mean the "fillbar"? I checked it before I uploaded it and the name is there~ o:
You don't have to worry about it if sudden circumstances have limited you to roam in the cyber world~ C: It's quite understandable, really~

Thanks for being understanding. (:
Oh and, haha, looks the bug came from the instance name after all; you named your orange graphic object "fillbar", but it was suppose to be "fillBar". Actionscript is case sensitive! Picky bastards, eh?
Let me know if that resolves your issue.

Sweet! Glad that worked out! I couldn't help but to take a small peak what you were working on, and I thought you use colors pretty well; it was setting up very great moods for the drawings.
Good luck with the completion!

Oh man that sucks. Sorry to hear that, but I like your positive attitude! Being in a competitive environment really gets stuff done too, unlike how I am doing -- pumping one drawing every full moon, YEAH! Anyway, keep on scripting/drawing.

No need to apologize, really~ I did mentioned that the flashes there are only an experimental take if I ever consider on making a full-blown serious flash animation/game~
And yes. Yes, it is~ Thus why I try to put some deadlines in my schedule so that I can put things done~
I take it that you are really busy with life eh?

I am not exactly in leisure but sometimes think I should be busier than this to get away with excuse of being completely unproductive. Also, that's pretty cool; setting deadlines has been proven to help people be more productive. I should probably try that, heh.
Ah, are you planning to make a game as well? I myself have STARTED on a game project last year. Pffth, didn't get too far.

And not spending too much time in the internet also~ xDD Tumblr was too distracting for me so~
What kind of gameplay is it? Well, it's still a plan but who knows if I'll give it try? Gotta take baby-steps~ C:

It was a side-scroller with a pseudo-3D engine where it is suppose to create an atmosphere controlled by a character. I did manage to make a first draft but it was difficult to make pseudo-3D convincing using only linear functions [Basically, I got discouraged haha.]
I could go back to it, but I have something else to finish up. So until then, it will be in the closet. But yes, good point, gotta take baby-steps!

Ah~ I wish you success on that then~

Perhaps I should have used the term "scrolling platformer"? It refers to games where a character exists in 2D planes and have only/usually 2 degrees of freedom [left, right, jump]
Also, thanks. (:

You're welcome~ xD

When I put the code
onClipEvent (load)
{
fullWidth = this._width;
}
onto the fillbar movie clip, it says that there is an error because Clip Events can only apply to movie clip instances. Did I do something wrong?

Oh shit ): Sorry to reply so late on this. I don't know if you looked for a different source to do this in the mean time, but it's difficult to debug errors just through descriptions; I will have to look at your file. If you still would like help on this, you can try sending me the .fla file.
Again, sorry for the late reply, Originations.
