Description
“Monolithic”Pencil on Illustration Board 30” x 40”
To see each element a little closer check the earlier wips.
This drawing is in the same realm but not a sequel to “fragile” a drawing I had on DA a while ago. There are big differences here and some similarities as well. The crux of the concept is aging and dealing with the knowledge of your own mortality. The two eyes are my step-fathers and my real fathers both have looked death square in the eye in the last year. Apart form there influence on me and the deep respect I have for each of them, they also represent an end of a journey, life’s journey. Myself represented in the center square is venerable, scared and helpless to affect time and what’s coming. The plumb bob symbolizes a pendulum (time) and strengthens the monolith. The bulb, a container of light now ruined and smashed but still idolized on its altar, its monolith. This gives some clues to my thought process and interest in symbolism some personal some universal. The rest, the sky, the storm, water and the outlined platform left with mostly negatives space strengthens the feel and tensions. I am revealing more then I usually feel comfortable with, I don’t want to take the mystery out of it so this is all I well say about this drawing, as far as meaning.
Next it’s off to do a rare commission I am extremely excited about it for is of a very special friend, I will do it as a wip I hope you check it out.
Thanks all for looking

It's when you see pictures like this that you cry ... because you realise how much more you have to learn. It's a meticulously constructed conductive piece of philosophical beauty... x x

Although i find symbolism to be problematic, i really like this picture. it's very meaningful and relevant especially in modern times when everyone seems to be looking for ways to prolong their lives and look younger, specifically through medicine and science

It's absolutely astounding. Did you use grid at all in the reproduction?

drawing but I do use them at times, but sparingly they can make a drawing look very stiff, thank you.

what you achieve with pencil is nothing short of pure alchemy - your shadows possess a sensitivity so consistant for such large scale works that I am speechless - hats off! The smashed light bulbs theme are (is) great surrealism and a great personal motif in your work. The textures sublime...man, having to make corporate big-wigs look pretty must have pulled you inside out!

I love your art work. you must have practiced most of your life lol i wish i was half as good as you but i seem to not have the time to sit down and do my work so i rush through everything. I really enjoy your descriptions of your work. It allows me to appreciate it even more knowing what you were thinking when you did this piece. I see a lot of technically brilliant pieces on DA but not too many that have the level of depth and inspiration that your work does. You're amazing...stay that way.

I'm speechless. I can't think of praise worthy of such talent. You obviously have such passion for your work. More than just talent, you have meaning in your pieces, and that adds so much more. This piece gives me something to work towards. Thank you for allowing me the honor to see such amazing work.

I don't know why but i love the two eyes of your father and step-father. they really draw you in and seem to be the focal point, even though they're at the bottom of the image. and they, your eye peeking out between the two is a nice balance.

Thats one of the most astonishing pencil drawings I have ever seen, and your story/symbolism/idea behind it is so well thought out and well represented, it shows how much you care about drawing, how you put such individual drawings into this piece and it even shows in the quality of your drawing, its superb, WELL DONE!

I love the clouds. The amazing depth where the atmosphere lets them rest, just displayed perfectly. The whole piece is gripping, but the work on the storm and clouds has me by the ears. Kudos.
