Description
Here it is folks the new cover for Relative Chaos and the start of the new comic!Next Page: fav.me/d6a825r
I'm really proud of this cover, it's a good indicator of how far I've come in my artwork, it's not perfect but at least it shows I've improved over the years since the last comic. I mean hell man I can paint now! I CAN PAINT FIRE NOW! I AM UNSTOPPABLE. I also tried a lot of new things in this pic, especially in how Sonic was rendered, originally it was going to be a straight up cel-shaded affair much like the original cover but I was experimenting with a chalk brush I just discovered (despite it being in photoshop for years) and I found myself liking this avenue of colour and so I stuck with it. I think it came out quite nice, gives a bit of texture to the painting.
Also incidentally the first time I've ever drawn one of Eggman's robots outside of the classic era, this time the eggrobots from Unleashed, I really liked their shape, they're quite imposing on their own when they're not being rammed down by the megaboost. My version of the design is a bit different from the games (and from what I've noticed in the actual comic too), a tad bit inspired by Transformers Animated, especially in its legs which are inspired by Prowl the motorcycle police bot.

I've got to say dude, you went all out on this. For starters, I don't even know who you are, but this popped up in my DEVWatch and it REALLY caught my eye. So you now know for a fact that it's really eye-popping. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/d/d⦠" width="21" height="15" alt="
" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="574" title="I am a dummy!"/> The fire is gorgeous and the scarf is a nice touch to Sonic's design, pus the blue is perfectly shaded. All round, it's an amazing picture. Oh, and bonus points for putting in the soap shoes, and I have no idea what you put in for the title logo. It LOOKS like someone was up all night on it! You are definitely worthy of a watch!

I thought I faved this already O_o but seriously, this is impressively done! The layout and overall composition is fun to look at - the poses of Sonic and that robot behind
I love the lighting of the image an how the flames are shown from Sonic's shoes. Are you gonna continue this comic? You capture sonic well.
Che this is a lot better than what I could possibly do with digital art ;w; I fail at digital art right now lol (but I admit I'm lazy with digital. Mostly cos my chair is super uncomfortable so I don't like to be there long ugh) and I get flustered since I don't know what anything does

Ahh why thank you for the kind words, I want to continue it but finding the time to make pages is tough since I have so many other projects going on.
Haha I'm pretty sure with time you'd be amazING with digital art, have you tried sai or manga studio, they're pretty good at replicating water colours. Also how long do you spend on traditional pieces? I'm guessing you don't work on them at the same table as your pc?

I plan on using sai painter once I buy a new computer. But I still want to get better acquainted with Photoshop - though it's be helpful if I found a more up to date version. I only have Photoshop 7.0 which is really old I can't ever find CS versions that are for a reasonable price. It's hard to find any tips and tutorials online for it since I have such an outdated version.
I just struggle with learning computer things I have to watch someone do something or I just get confused when reading about it. I'm dumb hah I feel stupid all the time
For traditional art, it depends on what I'm making in terms of time taken. If I want to make nice sketches/inks it takes me an hour or two - coloring something with no BG around 4-8 hours average unless it's something simple. Full color BG art can take me days or weeks depending on how much I want to put in.
But I wanna get better at editing and stuff on the PC. I feel like I always ruin or butcher my traditional arts since I'm not very knowledgable about files and what not so I never really like anything I put up hah I get panicky every time I post something new

I would say you could try the creative suite subscription but that may cost too much in the long run so for now maybe do that ol seven seas sorta thing if you catch my drift *wink*
It's what I did for the longest time until I had actual money to buy my own software. I've recently tried editing in scanned stuff and oh my god it's tough. I usually mess around with levels and hue and saturation to try and replicate the real world look, is that what you do too?

Hah I don't get what you mean
Yeah I generally mess with hue/saturation and levels (usually by sections) or I've started to anyway. I too try to get as close as I would like it to look (though I'm not very good at that)
I just honestly wanna rescan and edit all my deviations since I now know about scanning as TIFF instead of JPEG like I've been doing. My pics often come out blurry cos of that

I really enjoy the coloring for this, it makes it feel as though you're about to dive right into their action packed world. Beautiful job!

Sonic, are you on fire? I believe you are on fire.
I found this comic on tumblr and am massively pumped to read it. Good job making the egg robot look properly intimidating- they're a lot scarier in the night stages when they're not out of your life in a matter of seconds.

Sonic on Fire....seems legit.
Awesome a tumblr user! I'm gonna have to get used to how crazy fast stuff spreads on that site. And thank you, yeahh they kick my ass all ways to sunday in the night stages, which is why I thought they'd be good to use in this comic, they're fairly intimidating when it counts and sonic can use speed and acrobatics to take them out in many glorious ways which is always fun to draw!

I guess I like these bots because they actually have some menace to them, unlike the Egg Pawns which are just plain goofy looking. The Unleashed 'bots are cartoony enough to fit the setting and imposing enough to make a believable, scary villain.
(I have a theory that Sonic is partially fireproof, or at least flame retardant, due to the kind of heat he would have to deal with from air friction and such. And is that the Crystal Ring power up from Sonic Adventure?)

Yeah I don't like the eggpawns so much, they're not very imposing and lack the cool factor of their predecessor the eggbots from Sonic 3. Hmmm I might throw in some of these guys later in the comic actually...
Haha that sounds pretty...sound, yeah I'm surprised Sonic doesn't burn up at some points. Though I guess there's a limit like when he falls to earth in SA2 and dies.
And yeah that is the crystal ring power up, I love all the small trinkets and items he gets during he adventure games, in fact on his other hand he has the fire ring from SA2 for fiery somersaults. He'll have these in the comic too, it just felt like a good way to give him an extra boost whilst referencing some of my favourite games!

Eggrobos are a tough act to follow, though: they have giant guns, jetpacks, and the ability to disdainfully laugh at you while making their escape. I wonder if SEGA moved away from them because they were too much miniboss material and not so good for common minion enemies (unless you dumb them down to the extent of the ones found in Sky Sanctuary, but that's just kind of a letdown to the proud name of spherical robots)

The ones in sky sanctuary were tough! At least for me as a kid, I was an awful gamer back then.....but yeah they shot the balls off of me so many times. I enjoyed their presence more in the comics though, the fact they wore gloves for robots made them classy as all hell.

...Well now I have to admit I've only seen walkthroughs of Sky Sanctuary. (goddanget S&K, why don't you have a save feature) The person I watched made it look easy at least. I was more referring to their tendency to go out in one hit.
Classy robots. Classy robot gloves. As the Sonicverse will tell you, everything is classier with gloves. The only characters that don't have them are characters that would explode if they were any cooler.

Why did no one tell me about the chalk brush huh? HUH?! Now I'm gonna have to find it D: The fire looks great man, it's good to see this rolling! And, of course, the compulsory scarf eh?
Nice work ^_^

I think it's a trade secret, only those dedicated and bothered enough to try ALL the brushes in the default folder shall be deemed worthy of the mythical chalk brush.
The fire is omg the coolest thing to draw, at first it was really messy but after all the editing and messing around I didn't expect it to turn out so well :' D Oh and of course Sonic has his scarf, it wouldn't be relative chaos without it!
