Awesome piece!
I'd love to see something like
that in motion over terrain!

Hmm, I have seen 2d vector animators that allow applying animation & physics to say, a side view of your awesome craft!
With each piece that would move independently of the others, ie tires, and the 2 sections of your vehicle - naturally with a springy physics to attach the wheels to the body parts!

Similar in movement to the Moon Patrol arcade game !

what vray setting r u using for the cartoon look?

Please see my tutorials, specifically the Bomber coupe workflow. This will give some indication of what I do in VRay. The cartoon look is achieved by overlaying the 2D outline export from Sketchup, and mixing in the VRay render in Photoshop.

600v also shows some good techniques to enhance the VRay image. Specifically he takes a copy of the layer in PS, then Filter > Styles > Glowing Edges, then makes that layer black and white, then inverts the colour (so you get a white background with black and grey highlights). Then you multiply that layer over the original layer.

Hope that made sense

interesting approach... i usually stick to mental ray anyhow... default maya rendering approach... or vector render for the lines. they are just never this fine... overlapping them in ps is an interesting idea tho, would be hard for an animation tho

To get a fine line, I tend to export the 2D layer with a fairly high res, say around 4500 pixels.. then with a Gaussian blur lower layer and a standard layer over the top (multiplied). I shrink it back down to final resolution when i'm done, making the outline nice.

that is so bad ass,

Yo dude, if I sent you a human figure, do you think you could make armor, or an outfit? it might be fun to try and certainly neat to see.

Ah I could probably try haha.. never done anything like that before..

the trick to figure out is how to "pose" the armor with the model once it is made. I dont have those skills yet.
