Description In the wake of the Wonder Woman movie, Karen Starr is feeling envious...

To be honest it's somewhat unlikely that Powergirl will ever make a live action appearance in any DC movie or TV show, maybe the characters costume just seems to bother certain people, or someone feels she's just too similar to Supergirl. Whatever the case it's a pity since DC's premiere tsundere and cat owner would lend herself to a witty and fun action script... oh wait.. that might explain things given the general tone of DC movies .

I never did read that issue of Wonder Woman, a pity.

They could make her a Kryptonian survivor who was prepared for Earth by the computer program of her ship as she slept for a 20 year journey, with the program being intended to approximate the world she is going to rather than the one she left and effectively giving her a 'normal' life until she awoke on Earth.

Or they could make her a government created clone like her Galatea incarnation from the animated Justice League. Either could work.

I'm guessing they won't do the former due to overlap with Supergirl, but they could!

I can't believe that it took like 75 years after her comic debut for Wonder Woman to have her own solo film!

It does seem odd given that lesser known and younger characters have had movies, but at least she finally got her film

i hear Supergirl's show has brought up alternate dimensions, which would be a great way to introduce PG

I've only watched a few episodes of that show, the depiction of some of DC's secondary characters in the episodes i did see bothered me. Vartox and Red Tornado were particularly off the mark, while Maxima was reduced to a cameo where she was beaten by Supergirl in combat ( which is just silly ). That said, it could be a way for Power Girl to make an appearance.

Cuz, her shit tooΒ convoluted for a movie. Maybe if the movies into altered reality stuff down the line. or maybe you want it like catwoman, having a shit of change in to order to make it work.Β Beside, she just basically a older supergirl, so she kinda got aΒ TV show without boob window.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

adamantis In reply to StockerHawk [2017-07-13 12:00:52 +0000 UTC]

Stripping away the excess convolution, She is from Krypton, but spent her first 19 years or so in a 'Matrix' style reality as her ship took her to Earth that prepared her new life there. That in itself could be an interesting story and is a little different from Superman or Supergirls.

It's worth noting that Powergirl traditionally displays even less interest or attachment in her Krypton heritage/baggage than Superman, unlike Supergirl who had spent her early years there.

Of course they could simply ignore the origin story and plunge into the established superhero period of action and humour, which would make a novel change

or we lack tall muscular actresses with great looks who're also needed for Big Barda, She-Hulk and a few dozen other heroines

adamantis In reply to Arklyte84826 [2017-07-10 17:31:38 +0000 UTC]

Well, muscle can be built up or exaggerated by the costume, so it's not impossible for characters like Barda or She Hulk to appear in the movies, eventually.

I take animation over live-action any day (exception being Suicide Squad; Ayer's movie made me hopeful for a L.E.G.I.ON. flick...)so I'd rather see her there. They should either keep Sara Cravens or hire Minnie Driver for the voice. What I'd change HOWEVER is the Superman she's the cousin of...

adamantis In reply to devilkais [2017-07-10 13:43:31 +0000 UTC]

A L.E.G.I.O.N. movie could be amazing, and could introduce a certain bounty hunter/assassin into the DC movie-verse

I do think she's always better when she's at a slight distance from Superman, and what few links they have should probably be played down, other than being Kryptonian.

Would you believe it if I told that I really wanted the sequel to MOS to be about Lobo fighting Superman... With a dark sense of humor ( The Superman books have that so it's not like it'd be odd. Hell , Siegel's OG is pure irreverence and WB shenanigans !). I reached the L.E.G.I.O.N. conclusion hereΒ Suicide Squad 2016 - The Review

So do I. I guess that's why I was never fond of the JSA in the first place. Man does Johns love hammering the damn origin in and out ! I guess that's why I saw her as a JLI character first and foremost (while Superman works way better in his own series AND cast).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

adamantis In reply to devilkais [2017-07-10 17:19:03 +0000 UTC]

Lobo featuring in the Man of Steel sequel could still happen, there isn't any real reason he couldn't appear, and it would be a welcome change from Zod or Luthor and Doomsday ( the strange thing is i suspect a film with Lobo might not obliterate as many buildings ).

I'm a little biased really, given that the JLI pretty much introduced me to the character, but i agree that Power Girl never really seemed to fit into the JSA.

Well, American Alien is close to an ideal slugfest between Supes and Bo ( Though personally I'd make the fight resemble Cell VS Goku ). I heartily advise you THAT mini ! It is the synthesis of Β 86-99 Supes in 7 issues.Β

The reason ? Johns beat us over the head about the cousin bit ad nauseum !The one cool thing about JSA ? JOHNNY SORROW ! That bastard rules !

Absolutely. Most of the time I praise Johns (I'll post my 52 review, I have stuff to say about the 4 writers AND Keith Giffen in good or ill...), It is for what he did with Henshaw or Sinestro...not so much Brainiac, that part took Tony Bedard's talent to make it work...

Of course she's similar to Supergirl. She's an alternate universe version of Supergirl. Her real name is Kara Zor-L, and Supergirl is Kara Zor-El.

She's also been an ancient Atlantean princess and a clone, depending on the whim of writers in comics and animated media.
