Description
Formerly a DC character from the 'Advanced Dungeons and Dragons' comic, the female warrior Vajra Valmeyjar was one of the main characters throughout its 30 or so issues run that started around 1989.A native of Tethyr in the Forgotten Realms, Vajra was separated from her family at an early age during a civil war, she lived on the streets, engaging in desperate theft until taken under the wing of a professional thief called Conner. Effectively the only father figure she would ever know, Conner taught her how to more effectively steal, but also the basics of sword play, and as Conner once remarked, he taught her to smile again.
This relationship fell apart in her early teens when an attempted con turned bad and Conner bartered Vajra into slavery to the wealthy Baron Abon Drum in return for his own freedom ( he had intended to rescue her later, but the attempt failed ). Vajra's fierce attitude earned her a place in Drum's gladatorial arena, driven and possessed of a will of iron she rose to be one of the finest gladiators in the arena, but never taking any pleasure or attempting to win over the crowd.
Eventually escaping her captivity, Vajra became a mercenary and then headed to the Northern lands and the city of Waterdeep where claims of ownership were meaningless.Β After a stint as a Tavern bouncer, she became specifically an adventurer.
Physically powerful, attractive and a skilled fighter, Vajra also usually wore light armour and practical clothes, enjoyed drinking, and was mildly fond of a Paladin in spite of her irritations with him ( he was taken out of the comic by the 5th issue to feature in another title, 'Forgotten Realms' ).
Anyhow i felt like doing a fanart picture of her in a more relaxed mood.

I loved this character. Too bad there are no more comics featuring her...

Sexy, strong enough to carry an enfeebled Paladin in his armour, and a much missed character. A pity they didn't base the Dungeons and Dragons film on the comics.

Β That would have worked, i wish i knew why they ignored all of the potential source material.

She was cool, not normally quite as relaxed as i've drawn her unless she was in a Tavern , and the comic was an enjoyable read.
DC publishedΒ 'Advanced Dungeons and Dragons',Β 'Forgotten Realms' and a 'Dragonlance' comic series from around 1989 to the early 1990's. Both Advanced Dungeons and Dragons and Forgotten Realms are available in collected editions now under the 'Dungeons and Dragons Classics' label, but are no longer owned by DC and are currently published by IDW.
