Description A Voodoo cover I did for Wildstorm back in the 90s. One of the last painted covers I did before going to digital colors.

It's probably 15" X 25", water-based mixed media on illustration board.

It was a rush job; Wildstorm called me up on a Friday and needed it on a Monday, so I did this one in a 48-hour marathon I think, no sleep whatsoever. I hate those.

The original cover artist disappeared, so I was asked to do the covers for issues 2-4. He had started the miniseries with an Art Nouveau design for the first issue cover, which is probably why WS called me to help out. The fact that Voodoo is a superhero who is a stripper (I know, CLASSY!) in her alter ego hours probably had nothing to do with it, right?

Even though it was a nightmare, I really enjoyed this piece, and is one of the rare occasions where I had a lot of fun on a job.

you know, your work reminds me of Alphonse Mucha, so its wonderful seeing you actually do art nouveau. do you really not usually enjoy doing ur pieces? interesting

'Enjoy' is an umbrella term. Most people feel 'fun' and 'rewarding' are synonymous, but they truly art. I normally don't have a lot of fun working on art; I'm always pulling out my hair, struggling, paining of its inadequecies. But's it's almost always rewarding.

ur work looks so cool, I just assumed you maybe constantly thinking, 'ah what I just did there looks so awesome! this is the best thing I've ever done!'
I too sort of dislike the process, I like the end bit when you stare out the screen.

Noooooo.... I look at my work and constantly think "Bah! In defiance of all physical laws, this both sucks AND blows!" It's all inadequate. If you folks could see what I'm imagining in my head (and what my stoopit hands cannot seem to convey properly).... I swear, CANCERS would be cured. Lepers would be healed.

hahaha! exactly, I think if one could successfully transplant imagination onto a page you would literally be God or something. Nothing I do matches my original concept as seen in the mind, as I am finding with this current art work I'm doing...

I know you're busy but would you mind looking at this piece once it's done? I'm at the hair pulling stage right now, but once its done I would love for you to critique it, if you don't mind that is! ! !

damn I always thought it was digital, but I see you talk about the airbrush, so it begins to make more sense now

You've done Everything traditinnal? I mean... even the lettering, and empty space around them?

Need lots of patience; and maybe cofee

hey honestly you should came back to this media sometimes. I know traditionnal don't forgive mistakes ; but, traditional rocks when you can master with it

This piece was done when all I could do on a computer was e-mail and Solitaire. The whole thing is traditional, the lettering was all done by hand. ALL WORK.

Honestly, your work depicting women is beyond parallel but images like this are the biggest reason I dig your work. The details are done fantastically, the graphic element in the background is absolutely stunning and the incorporation of fontography here is simply breathtaking.

Really an absolutely stunning piece.
