Description
Someone just sent me a note asking "WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW!"Well, when someone 'asks' you a question in ALL CAPS and with an exclamation mark instead of a question mark, what can you do except take a screen capture of your desktop while you are working.
If you are the person who sent me said imperative request... here you go.
Hit Caps Lock off, and try some de-caf.

If you were to ever post a high speed video on Youtube (or wherever) showing what goes on onscreen, I would be forever in your debt. Though to be fair, my debt ain't worth much.

Looks like you're using the pencil tool. Do you use that for all your painting, or just for flatting/separations. Because honestly I couldn't imagine getting such smooth transitions with the pencil tool.

Awesome work in progress! I like the little "class" a few comments ago about channels and layers. Although I hate to use layers/channels, I'm still learning. So I just do it straight up without any.

I'm still amazed you don't use a wacom tablet. Out of curiousity, what technique do you use when you approach photoshop with a mouse? I'm currently still learning photoshop.

If you've ever got free time (lol) you should do a tutorial! I'd love to see how you make these pieces. What I really love about your work is how the skin is painted 'soft' but you've got such a lovely bold line around the figure too! I love a good line. :3

what kind of brush do you use for the smooth parts? I never get it that smooth ( i used the word "smooth" way to much )

Wow, Adam! That's AWESOME! I see you have the white color keys of death as well I saved a few color profiles awhile back for my cs2 and noticed... not all the colors work (which is a shame)
I love studying stuff like this, especially from someone I look up to. (No, I don't think you're taller than me, but you might be... yeah you might be, so it's ... um anyways) And see what I can gather from the images themselves.
Very cool of you man!

No, the whites in the palettes are there on purpose; I put them there so that my lines of colors can be slightly mor organized.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1
AdamHughes In reply to valiantonov [2009-02-23 16:07:09 +0000 UTC]
No. I'm not giving anyone any estimations. That way, if the book doesn't come out when it's supposed to, no one will be disappointed.
It's taking me forever to do everything myself, so I don't want to make any promises.

How about letting us know how far you have been?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
AdamHughes In reply to valiantonov [2009-02-23 21:16:54 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure what you mean by 'letting us know how far you have been', but if you mean "how far along are you", then, I'm sorry, no. That's like giving an estimate. If I say that I'm half done, then that creates an impression of how much there is to go.
I'm working on it, and trying to get it done and make it worth the wait. That's all I'm comfortable saying.

Yeah, that's what I mean. pardon my bad english.
Fair enough.
I'm absolutely sure that this one's going to be worth the wait. I think I better stop asking questions so you have more time to finish it.

geez i wish i unstand channels in photoshop!i just use layers. i bought that book on coloring and your mention in it. but everybody uses channels. i have no clue

AdamHughes In reply to digital-alero [2009-02-22 19:58:08 +0000 UTC]
You use channels, too. Everyone uses channels. When you do anything in a Layer, you are also technically working in Channels at the same time.
Layers and Channels are not variations of the same thing. Every Layer is made up of Channels (4, if you are in CMYK Mode; 3, if in RGB).
Every Layer is an image; every image in Photoshop is a composite of Channels. Each Channel is technically a Grayscale image, one each pertaining to as certain color. When viewed simulatenously, they create a color image. When you are looking at or working in a Channel, it is the same thing as if you had a Grayscale mode JPEG open. Channels are just individual parts of a larger 4-color image (assuming we're talking CMYK Mode here).

what language is that?, also, so, when you are coloring in photoshop, after scaninng your tonal value drawing, you just do it by tweaking the channels?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
AdamHughes In reply to Pardilate [2009-02-23 19:07:41 +0000 UTC]
It's Russian.
Also, I don't tweak the Channels; no one really does - there's no point as far as what's being done in this instance. All work is done in Layers.
