Description
acrylic, 2006 (an older piece)This piece is based on a Siberian Folk Tale called "The Girl Who Watched in the Night", in which this particular girl lassoes a fox who has been kidnapping her cousins, and demands that he lead her to her kin.
Originally, I illustrated this same scene from a normal angle, level with the girl. My illustration teacher told me that it didn't convey the movement of running through the woods; it was too static. So I went back and tried again from a different angle, and this is what I produced. So, I'm thankful that my teacher was honest and coaxed me to try again, because I like this version much better than the first.
Thank you all for the wonderful comments! Your words mean a lot to me! And thank you to ~C-Ungol and ^De-Profundis for the DD, I'm honored!

Beautiful Adam, I am very impressed.
I would be honored to have it hanging on my walls (or perhaps a print?).

Whoa, this really grabs the attention.
perspective is so amazing, feels like I'm going to fall to the ground when I'm watching this. I like very much those colours and shadows too. You have captured this "fairy-tale"-feeling very well.
Fav!

Great perspective. Love how the trees all point towards the focal point and the shadows emphasize their direction while they speed through the forest.
And the fox really stands out in the cold surroundings.
Nice work

Wow, that is just amazing. I love how the tree shadows give the piece a sense of forward motion, and I adore the bright red fox in the middle of all of that snow. I'd definitely pick up a book if it was illustrated like this.

Great contrast and depth! The perspective gives it a sense of an urgent journey, and the pop of color on the fox draws your eyes from the trees to the fox and girl.

I think youre art teacher must have been right, this definitely conveys the movement, I love the angle choice, i think the angle is what made me it, I'd me interested in seeing the orginal angle of this painting, because i really like the colors in this, they are very refreshing. Do you have that posted?

Haha, I may have actually painting over my first attempt, just to save money on masonite board. But I'll check next time I go through my stash of paintings.

Haha, true, but when said (talking) fox kidnaps your family, I think it becomes morally justified.
but worry not! she let the fox go when her cousins were safe.
