Full disclosure: I don't like Gambit. He's just another borderline villainous, good-looking d-bag who gets what he wants. I hate those guys in real life, I certainly don't idolize them in fiction. That said, he's clearly one of the most popular X-Men ever (just like those real life d-bags tend to be) and I get commissioned out to draw him a LOT.

Fortunately, while I don't like him as a person, he can be pretty interesting to draw. There's a lot to work with, and you can get some neat stuff out of him artistically. I was pretty happy with this; probably my best Gambit ever.

Gambit is just a bit opportunistic, and nonchalant. Some characters have more 'faults' than others, and we certainly know his. Doesn't mean we can't like him if he's a little bit more 'real' or 'average' than some other superheroes we know and love

Some people or things have that "Love to hate" or "hate to love" sorta feel. Gambit is definitely one of those

Just because he can be an interesting character doesn't mean he's a good person. I don't think he's boring, I just think he's a dick and I don't line up to be a fan of dicks.

you did such a good job on him even if you hate him... So, I ask: what would you have done if you had loved him!?!?

Hate is maybe too strong a word. I certainly don't like him, but I'm mostly just frustrated that such a prick is so dang popular. Somehow I would hope for better; that an audience largely marginalized and shat upon by precisely that kind of guy wouldn't turn around and idolize a fictional version of that guy.

If I liked him? I dunno. I try to put in everything I've got even on stuff I'm not psyched to draw. And like I said, whether I like him or not, he's got some nice visual flair that makes it easy to make him look good.

I like him, he's an interesting character. Of course, I wouldn't want him as my boyfriend: you can't put your trust in a boy like him but, according to me, he's not so bad like you think he is but this is just an opinion
Artistically, I agree with you: he's got something special when you draw him and in a way or another he turns out cool

Not being a good person doesn't mean he isn't an interesting character. I mean, a lot of villains are deeply interesting, and they're TERRIBLE people! I just look at Gambit's history and see a series of lies, cheats, betrayals, and rampant selfishness. He's the guy who gets away with everything because he's handsome and charming, where a less charismatic person would have been in jail or dead or at least friendless by now. But, like you said, to each their own I suppose.

he's a passionate character: where there is passion you not find innocence or a pure mind he wants something, he gets that. And he's not just for his charm; of course, he's a charismatic one, but he's not just that. He loves life. He loves joy. He's a human, with all his sins. Do you remember when Rogue left him in Antarctica all alone, with no food and no shelter?? He didn't use his charismatic side to survive in that case he's not a hero, he's not a villain, he's in the middle. With his negative and positive aspects. Human. But people can have their own ideas about him this world is beautiful because it's various

I always say Gambit is the guy Pat Benetar was talking about when she wrote "Heartbreaker." And thanks!
