Description This is an original character from the core cast of the comic I and my wife are developing - 'The Uniques.'

Scout is easily one of my favorite characters of our team, and in part that’s because he’s an amalgam of a lot of my other favorite characters - Robin, Spider-Man, Kyle Rayner, and others. He isn’t a direct correlation to them, and is quite different from any of them, but there are things we’re doing with Scout that come from me brainstorming what I wish I could have done with somebody like Robin, but won’t ever have the ability to.

So he’s kind of our token ‘Sidekick’ character - and is really the only one on the team. To that end, his story will take him through the rigors of having to maintain two allegiances: one to the team and his only real friends, and the other to his mentor Ghost, who took him in, trained him, and with whom his relationship is growing strained as he grows older and begins questioning his path.

You can read more about Scout’s origin, powers, and story in his 'Better Know a Unique' entry on our blog: [link]

You'll be seeing more later this year when Rainbow in the Dark wraps. After that, we're going back to Uniques to tell a lot more stories with those characters.

It absolutely is. By hook or by crook, we're making this comic happen! We're still in the drawing phase, but as it nears completion, we'll be updating and giving information here and on our blog [link]

All right! spidey:This looks like a really great comic, and I could kinda see it in Image. I have to wonder though, does Scout have ANY powers?

AdamWithers In reply to Marvelninja [2007-08-06 16:03:13 +0000 UTC]

Yes, he does have powers, but they're rather minor. He's got inhuman agility, and perfect physical equilibrium. In other words, he can balance perfectly on any surface and his body automatically stabilizes. So, imagine being able to run across a tightrope, your mass shifting in automatic, minute incriments so you're as stable on that wire as you are on the flat ground. He can do handstands on one hand-- one finger, if he has to. And his agility makes him more acrobatic than an olympic gymnast.

Of course, much of that was trained, too. His natural abilities have been heightened greatly by intensive physical training. So yeah, he's got some powers, but they're not the big, dramatic, fight-winning types of things the other characters have.

I like this cat, and I like what you have to say about him, being a fan of the same characters.

He shares a similar look and appeal with Spiderman and Robin, and that fucking Invincible kid.... i just started reading that book and I can't for the life of me remember his name.

Anyway, no major critiques on the drawing. LucianX mentioned the right foots length and I agree with that. I like the very classic design of his costume.

AdamWithers In reply to Significant-Pie [2007-03-21 02:24:17 +0000 UTC]

Interestingly enough, his design began its life as a redesign of the Robin costume. DC recently redid his look, and I thought it wasn't so hot, so I set about trying to do one myself. I liked my end result so well, I took the recognizably 'Robin' stuff out of it, turned it blue (Scout's key-color) and added the gear and utility stuff we'd already designed for him and voila.

And the Invincible kid's name is...Invincible. Or Mark, if you're friendly. Best superhero book on the market, and I'm a picky guy.

Scout has got to be my favorite out of all the guys you two have in the lineup for sure. I just like the whole idea behind him.

now time to be a fellow artist and drop a comment about the piece. I dig it accept for one thing. his left foot (my right) looks a little bit big. long and kinda clown-shoe-esk to me. maybe I'm just picky but I would say bring that back just a bit and it would be perfect. all around though nice job.

Yeah, I wasn't so pleased with him from the waist down - had I to do it over again, I'd have brought both legs and feet down in size a bit for balance. Still, Comfort assures me that most people won't notice. I'll just have to point out to her that the first comment nailed my one fear right off the bat. Thanks Comfie! Consarn it...
