This is a page from Uniques #7: Barbecue. It features a pair of characters debuting in this issue, Dreadnought (the guy in the robo-suit) and Agent 1 (the female). They're both high-ranking members of the Task Force, a US governmental team of uniques, returning from a mission in Kansas.

They're complex characters. Both are soldiers, both are quite aged, though Agent 1 doesn't look it. They've been through hell on many occasions, and are reacting to that in different ways. The one thing they have in common is a growing desire to pursue radical paths to defend the country.

Dreadnought's power armor was designed to look like he's more like a guy wearing a tank or Mechwarrior-style mecha than something Iron Manish. I've said before how hard it is to put a guy in power armor and not have people call it an Iron Man ripoff. We're walking that line even closer now, with this guy being part of a government team. The comparisons to the Ultimates will be many, and are unavoidable.

So we aren't even trying to avoid them. We're charging right into them. It might actually help us, as when people see the whole Task Force on the field together, without even knowing much about the characters at all, you'll immediately assume an incredible level of bad-assitude without us having to spend a lot of page-space conveying that idea.

But they aren't the Ultimates. Hopefully people will see that. Eventually.
