Description
Two quick feline anatomy tutorials I stuck together. These two things are probably the most common anatomical mistakes I see in cat drawings o__o; Especially the chest.
Like honestly... Cats shouldn't be drawn like dogs (or plastic toys). Cats and dogs are built for two completely different hunting styles. And being a cartoonist or really "stylized" isn't an excuse for fucking anatomy up. So stop it, just stop it
Anyways, I hope it helps out at least a few people, so enjoy

Just an opinion, but I don't think that everyone has to draw cats with no chests. If people don't like "stylized" or "cartoony" cats, it's their problem, and the artist concerned doesn't have to change their style of artwork just because the freaking anatomy is wrong.
But hey, that's just me. You do draw cats extremely well, and are talented in the realism style. Let's all just draw how we want, and stupid conflicts about styles and art talent will be avoided.

AddictionHalfWay In reply to Warrioratheart [2011-01-12 19:11:08 +0000 UTC]
If an artist understands the anatomy of a cat and decides "I want to intentionally draw my cats with a chest because that's how I roll" then I'm fine with that. But the fact of the matter is most people don't know "real" cat anatomy and run away from ever learning under the excuse "it's my style so I don't have to learn it".
But uh yeah, I'm not a style/anatomy nazi. I just think style should be used to better express your individual cartoons, not to avoid learning properly.

I love this, thank you so much for making it.
It has helped me tons (only very recently discovered it though. Got lot to learn about cats! x3 ) The chest has been one of the big features I kept drawing too doglike.
Have you possibly got any tips for the jaw? It's one of those features I think i keep getting wrong and I find it a bit challenging.

AddictionHalfWay In reply to ElliPuukangas [2010-11-21 18:13:52 +0000 UTC]
I'm glad it helped you out c:
The jaw? What do you mean, like the teeth too, or just drawing a chin..?

ElliPuukangas In reply to AddictionHalfWay [2010-11-21 18:27:19 +0000 UTC]
Chin would be the problem area.
I'm basically planning to redo an old page of my comic which i'm overall not happy with, and I'm trying to do my best to get the anatomy right this time. :3

Are you used to dog anatomy normally?

ElliPuukangas In reply to AddictionHalfWay [2010-11-21 18:40:16 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, pretty much. =/ Hence why I'm extremely grateful for your tutorials. My dog anatomy is by no means perfect though, and I'm hoping I'll learn to spot more of my mistakes and correct them by learning more about different animals.
XD Your avatar keeps distracting me from the subject in hand.

AddictionHalfWay In reply to ezziethenekolover [2010-11-21 20:20:21 +0000 UTC]
sometimes it can be hard to notice, especially since a lot of domestic cat pictures focus on their cute face, but all cats have it, and you'll see it really stick out in looking at pictures of lions, pumas or bobcats, where photographers will often show a lot more than just that cute face c:

ezziethenekolover In reply to AddictionHalfWay [2010-11-21 20:26:48 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, also the idea that the chest doesn't cause their legs to stand further apart. I guess that's why they can squeeze into all sorts of hiding holes.
