Description
After several rebuilds, I started to see some light on this so I stayed up all night to finish it. Seemed like an eternity to find the proper textures on this but I didn't want to stop when things were going in the right direction. Sorry for the file size, but the jpeg kept killing the red in this, regardless of the compression ratio used. Probably be my last fractal for a bit. I want to get out with the camera more and thinking of a terragen landscape sometime soon.Ultra Fractal, 16 layer Julia z^4 (compatability folder).
Full view for all the details.

Wow, thanks. In some ways, you're right. Parts of this have spirals that continue forever. This is one of a very small images that I've made with space as the theme. At one point it was really cloudy but it seemed to lack form so I kept trying different formulas before I found the ones that gave all the sharp curves. Once I found them and tweaked them out I had to keep them.

A beautiful tint of red, an interesting pattern, good job Worth spending all night on it
Jpeg always kills red, I guess this format hates red >_< Did you try to change fractals into jpeg in photoshop? (with the best settings) It's the only way I know to preserve red and generally the quality of the whole picture in intact condition

I posted this on another site using PS and the sharp curves were all softened out when the jpeg compressed it. Sometimes I've had red work, but this time blurred it too much and the image needed the sharp edges.

Well I don't use any compression when converting picture into jpeg, the size is a little big, but the quality is first class Photoshop is the only program I know about that can do it.

Actually, Irfanview [link] does a better job at compressing image than photoshop does. This was compressed with Irfanview and it cut almost half the file size down after resizing in photoshop.

that is quite stunning!! reminds me of a formal christmas dress i had .. with sequins and such. beautifully composed. love the red and the bits of light. also like how you framed and titled it. great font.

Thanks, Shannon. Funny how people see cloth in this, but it would be interesting to make a dress out of this, or maybe a wicked looking cape. I did the framing because the weird pattern didn't allow me the proper print ration without stretching it too much. Looking back I think I might try it more often.

I'm working on another Julia right now. I think julia's are really interesting, but difficult to work with. Only have the base layer, but it's looking kinda organic, assuming I don't tear this down three times like I did on Antithesize.

lol yeah make a christmas fractal soon .....i notice u said the jpg killed the red in your fractal...when you save your factals what do you save them under..i usually save as jpg...thats bad huh

Aeires In reply to yulii [2005-05-31 17:46:41 +0000 UTC]
Jpegs are compressed files and I've had some bad luck with red on occasion. The other thing that is bad about jpegs is every time they are saved they lose quality. Because of both these factors I save and render everything as png's. Of all the lossless file systems they seem to be the smallest file sizes. I post in jpeg usually because it helps people load the images, but when I have one that I'm really confident of and the colors are likely to blur I'll post a slightly smaller version in png to save the quality.
Here's the biggest reason for me posting this as a png instead of a jpeg.
Here: [link]
Renderosity: [link]
If you can open them in separate windows you'll see that the jpeg killed a lot of the sharpness of the image. Some people probably wouldn't care either way but I'm a perfectionist, especially after working on an image for a complete week and taking 50 hours to render.

Thanks. It was originally going to be a nebula, so the light evolved into it. After the nebula disappeared, the light had to stay because it looked too plain without it.

Thanks. I was actually thinking about adding green but thought twice about it.
Couldn't get the right print aspect on this so I chose a different framing option. Kinda like it and might use it more in the future.
