would the shine come back if you wash it? i want to dye a wig that i got but it's shiny and i think if i dye it after i de-shine it it'll keep the color longer but if there's still fabric softener in the wig i'm afraid the color won't takeΒ

This is a problem I'm worried about right now, you commented in April so how did it turn out?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ivyra In reply to FierceDeityGirl [2014-12-09 03:30:03 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the shine will come back, this method works by coating the wig with the fabric softener and you will have to re-coat it evey time it gets washed.

so if i do this to my wig, it wont change the way it was styled, right? considering that no products have been used on the wig ovo;; or if the wig doesnt have that big of a shine like yours doesΒ

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ivyra In reply to MushyBlue [2014-12-09 03:28:33 +0000 UTC]

Getting it wet like this will change the style in the same way that it changes any natural hairstyle when wet. If it is a curled wig feel free to pm me and I can walk you through re-adding the curls. Otherwise, let it soak and drip dry and it will not shrink or otherwise change the wig.

creo que el talco es para quitar el shine mas que el fabric softener (que es para haser lo suave). pero no estoy seguro.

Does it take away the shine perfectly or does some shine still left ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ivyra In reply to DowyChan [2014-12-09 03:27:02 +0000 UTC]

It usually depends on how long you let it soak and how shiny it was to start with, no 100% answer can be given here, sorry!

Lovemymudsy [2014-01-16 02:22:33 +0000 UTC]

Instead of using fabric softener, would it be enough to use TALC only? aand if so, should I mix the water with talc and let the wig soak in that for 5 days?Β
I am a little confused - @Β

And when and how are you using the talc in your description? I can't seem to fully understand your method - can you explain?<3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ivyra In reply to Lovemymudsy [2014-12-09 03:26:04 +0000 UTC]

you use the talc after the wig is totally dry, you can try using it first and see if you get the "look" you want. If it is still too shiny, rinse it all out of the wig, and then place the wig in a bucket of fabric softener and water. Let it drip dry completely, decide if it is STILL too shiny, then do the talc again, without rinsing it this time.

Donteatacowman In reply to GaaSuka [2013-11-19 08:50:35 +0000 UTC]

Not the OP but I did some research--yeah, it's baby powder. You have to check the ingredients though, since a lot of widely available baby powder is now made of corn starch instead of talcum. From my research, corn starch baby powder works just as well.

what kind of wig did you use in this?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

vk-tsuki In reply to ??? [2013-08-17 06:16:50 +0000 UTC]

As I said some time ago, I made it with my nylon-extremely-shiny-wig for try, it worked to remove the bright (the talc made more effect than the fabric I think.. XD). But now the wig have frizz, spiky ends... I think it can be cuz the wig already were messy before the 'anti-bright' process.. do you know how I can make the hair totaly straight again? Maybe with heat?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PIXELIZEDxSHADOWS In reply to vk-tsuki [2014-03-02 09:15:25 +0000 UTC]

try using a hair straightener on it. start out on a VERY low setting and gradually raise the heat until it works. I used it for a cheap halloween wig that was curly and it was alright. i suggest starting on the underside or a part that you won't be seeing just in case it melts when you start trying hotter heat settings. Hope that helped you, I happened to see you post and knew the answer and wanted to offer my two-cents

vk-tsuki In reply to PIXELIZEDxSHADOWS [2014-03-04 05:58:30 +0000 UTC]

I already tried but my straightener is really hot D: I tried with hot water too and wasn't so good. I think that wig has no more solution, but it can try with others sometime~ Hot water works so well for doll's hair

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PIXELIZEDxSHADOWS In reply to vk-tsuki [2014-03-09 10:18:40 +0000 UTC]

you could invest in a cheap straightener. or a low heat iron. i've never tried the iron method, but i've heard it works too. i know for sure that remington and adis are both relatively cheap brands. and they both can be set to low enough settings that it won't melt the wig (i've Β used my remington wet to straight on a super cheap halloween wig and it worked beautifully). the remington i own was a gift a long time ago, so i can't tell you how much it was but the adis was only about $20 and it can also get as hot as 450 degrees if you want to straighten your own hair as well (i have super curly hair, so i use mine for both and the hotter temp keeps it straighter long. i don't know if you have that issue, but it's a nice bit of information if you do .) however if wig styling and maybe taking light kink out of your own hair, there are brands that can run as low at $10-$15 and most sold now can go to really low temps like my remington and adis do. i hope that helps you a bit for in the future, and good luck!

What do you do with the talc powder? Is it necessary to use?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Donteatacowman In reply to Serendipital [2013-11-19 08:48:21 +0000 UTC]

The powder gets rid of the shine but can also make the wig colour much lighter. (I used just-talcum powder and that's what happened; it's a good short-term solution.)
