Description
The Char Signal, or TSF (abbreviation for Télégraphie Sans Fil, or “Wireless”) was an unarmed radio tank variant of the Renault FT intended for command and control. This variant swapped the turret with an enlarged fixed superstructure to house the E10.ter transmitter receiver. In May 1917, General Estienne requested the mounting of a radio set in tanks to support other tanks, with at least one radio tank per company. The French high command appeared to be in no hurry to develop these support vehicles, so Estienne personally asked Louis Renault to build a radio version based off the Renault FT.
