What no M-60, that's a squad automatic weapon. According to my Father in Law the BAR was still around during the Cold War as well, said his unit in Vietnam had a couple and that was in 1965.

You are correct that the M60 is more of GPMG, however a infantry platoon in Vietnam usually had one per squad because there really wasn't a lighter alternative. However the Navy Seals used a Stoner light machine gun, this modular system was probably the closest thing to an actual SAW, capable of being both magazine and belt fed, it could also be modified to make it lighter, more portable, and easier to use.

Yes it is sad that Stoner's work wasn't more appreciated by the Top Brass. But the Top Brass was too ingrained with traditional weapons, and not thinking about what the future could have in-store. That's why the AK-47 out gunned the west for about a decade and a half.
