The Elmetto M33 reminds me of an English comedy called "Allo, Allo" set in occupied WW2 France, one of the characters is an Italian officer with a helmet like this adorned with feathers, his main purpose is to mock the Nazi's

Italians are strange, we are an individualistic and undisciplined people but, we have centuries of Christian civilization behind us,
although the hateful racial laws were in force,
the Italian army never gave the Jews to the Germans, as long as it could not do so. And in France all the Jews who
could have fled to the Italian area, where they were housed in the hotels on the Côte d'Azur.

Just finished reading a very good book about the Italian anti-fascist partisans, they really had brass-balls for a fight I'll say that for them. It's a translation of "History of Partisan Italy September 1943 - May 1945" by Giorgio Bocca who also wrote Partisans of the Mountains.
The author himself was a partisan and member of Giustizia e Libertà, it's amazing to read something by a person who lived history. Two of his pals fought alongside Italian anarchists and socialists in the Spanish Civil War ~ "Oggi in Spagna, domani in Italia"
Would you ever think of doing a illustration of these partisans

Giustizia e Libertà and Partito d'Azione picked up the flower of Italian intellectuals,
they were an attempt to create a non-Marxist socialist party. Giorgio Bocca,
Norberto Bobbio and Calamandrei were among the Italian intellectuals that I most respect.
I thought and made some sketches on the Spanish civil war, a sad chapter in European history, communism,
anarchy, republic, sinister totalitarianisms and cynical democracies.
This is a sore point, my uncle was a partisan, he was captured by the Germans and interned at Mauthausen, fortunately he survived.
His elder brother was a fascist, a volunteer in the black shirts he fought in Africa against the English, then joined the Social Republic, and was interned in a British prison camp.
My father loved the Germans and made small commissions for the soldiers, who paid him with cigarettes and cans of meat. My mother hated the Germans, she miraculously saved herself from the massacre of Marzabotto, but almost all her playmates were killed.
This is the mirror of a civil war.
A friend of mine did two

Civil war is bitter war, in Ireland we call our civil war the Cogadh na ncairde(the war of the friends) these were guys who had fought in our Independence war and ended up fighting each other. One guy who was shot had been best man at the wedding of our first Minister for Justice.
In my home county there's a park where rebels against the elected govt. were shot by firing squad...you can still see the pock marks on the stone walls.
I've read Bobbio, during my Constitutional law term, our class lecturer encouraged us to do independent study of the history of republics so we could understand the philosophy behind the idea. Didn't he do essays with Maurizio Viroli as well? Viroli wrote that brilliant book "Republicanism".
I found the history of the Italian republics fascinating, I actually have a banknote from the Venetian Republic from 1848 some of them were signed by Manin!.

Glad to find someone so interested in our history, i do am interested in the history of ireland and british isles, and i'm also a great supporter to revolutions in defence of rights, democracy, and self determination of people.
Thanks Andrea for having quoted my drawings, you depicted that tragic page in our history from a very objective point of view, so rare of these days.

"
The Mannlicher Carcano was adopted in 1891, it was a bolt action rifle, it fired a 6.5x55 rimless cartridge. In period of peace among the two war was developed a new cartridge in 7.35x51, because the old cartridge was a little underpowered and was considered inadequate in a modern war, but the italian arsenal and industries couldn’t fulfill the huge amount of weapons needed for the molibilization of the army, and the project was suspended." - This is interesting. I mean that they tried to adapt a more powerful cartridge, a similar thing happened in Japan. I wonder about a reason behind it, why they thought that they needed more powerful cartridges. Because this need was totally wrong, which was shown shortly during the war. Which experiences lead to adopting even weaker intermetiate cartridges.

The old 6.5x55 hadn't stop power and it was quite useless against armoured car, and having a stable center of gravity it hasn't
the perverse rotating effect of the bigger calibers that present themself vertically producing devastating wounds.

Have you any interest in making a Greek version of this?
The research you post with the images is very interesting, do you have any sources?

I'm from another epoch, lot of books sources, then on the web there is a bounty of references, if you know what you are looking for. Yes, I've a Greek plate in to-do list, if I have time and fancy I'll draw the WW1 and WW2 weapons of the Bulgarian, Belgium, Serbian and SHS, WW2 Greek and Romanian Army, then I miss the WW2 British weapons, for which at least two tables would be needed.

Beretta is a very old firm, it was established in 1526, and since then it has always produced weapons for the Italian armies.
