Description

I'm still alive!  And it's Charmander!  I'm planning on entering this into 's current contest, Pokemon!  Though not this photo because I want to finish all the starters from the first games and a group photo is a must!

Anyway, I'm planning on writing out the patterns for all of them so as usual, please credit me should you use or reference the pattern.  It really does take me a lot of time to write these out!  Also, please don't sell the pattern or finished product since I do not own these characters!  Let me know if you catch any errors!  Thank you!

**The flame at the end of the tail was made by brushing out yarn.  I was trying to figure out how to make the flames look  more "flame-like" and ended up using this tutorial:   by as a guide.  I ironed the brushed out yarn instead of using a hair straightener since I didn't have one, but it seemed to do the trick!

**The eyes and nails are needle felted though I'm sure cut out felt will also work!

Sorry, it's kind of hard for me to determine why without holding it myself  Did you double-check to make sure you didn't miss any rounds?

Q: needle felted vs cut out felt? Been crocheting for five months, going to start my first amigurimi soon. Please any tips?
Ps I hope mine turn out half as good as yours, SO CUTE and well made

For needle felting, I used wool roving and layered it on with a special felting needle.  A simple tutorial I put together can be found here: fav.me/d7g779t .  There's also a lot of needle felting tutorials on YouTube if you want to learn more more of the basics.  I like this method because I can get a blended color gradient while with cut-out felt, I can't.

Thanks very much for the compliment!  I'm sure yours will turn out great!

Looking through comments I've seen a few corrections. Do you update the main post when they are found or do I need to check comments for pattern updates?

Thank you! I ended up sewing felt together and that attached the eyes to the ami. They are chilling on the dashboard of my car now.

I love your cute pokemon and i am planning to make my own but i was wondering was size yarn you used with the size f hook?

I use worsted weight yarn, Red Heart Supersaver brand (in case you wanted to know).  Glad you like my work!

I adore your pattern. the only issue I have been experiencing has been with the eyes. I am not the most efficient skill with Amigurumi. if you have any tips I am all ears. I finished the rest of squirtle and charmander already over thr course of two days

aphid777 In reply to Vegas-Asian [2014-03-04 17:09:49 +0000 UTC]

The eyes were done using a different technique called needle felting.  I used roving wool, which I felted directly onto the work when I was done with all the assembly.  If you're unfamiliar, there are a lot of tutorials on YouTube if you search "needle felting".  I recommend using a coarse needle because it's much faster.  Otherwise, cutting out pieces from sheets of felt and gluing/sewing them on would work fine  Hope that helps!

CraftyToad [2014-02-25 05:35:47 +0000 UTC]

How big is the finished product?  Will I only need one skein of the orange yarn?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

aphid777 In reply to CraftyToad [2014-02-25 16:14:06 +0000 UTC]

It ends up being about 6 inches in length so a skein should be more than enough

I started yesterday and im halfway through. It starts with the head and ends with the the body. (its my first amigurumi so i might be mistaking) But looking at the pics and what i crotched it seems like the head.

Oh my its so pretty! I got the wool today and just started. But im so nerveus! Its my first Amigurumi and im dutch so i also have to translate the pattern and i hope im doing it right and i want it to be perfect!

So i did the magic ring. And then i assumes i had to do the inc around with single crochet's so 2 in each. and then on the third line i did 1, 2 , 1, 2 etc. and completed the circle.

now moving on to the second line and im so hoping im doing it right!

Hi, I really think your Charmander looks fantastic!
I am a beginner to crochet. Can someone please explain to me what "(mi)" in row 9 (head and body) means? I just repeated the first part (Sc 3, inc, sc, inc, sc 12) and reached 40 but then row 10 (Sc 4, inc, sc, inc, sc 9, inc, sc 4, inc, sc 9, inc, sc, inc, sc 4 (46)) does not add up to 46 but only to 44.

Thanks for any help!

Kind regards, Pia

aphid777 In reply to pia-me [2014-02-01 01:28:37 +0000 UTC]

Sorry!  I accidentally left some of my notes in there  It should be:

-Sc 3, inc, sc, inc, sc 24, inc, sc, inc, sc 3 (40)
-Sc 4, inc, sc 2, inc, sc 9, inc, sc 4, inc, sc 9, inc, sc 2, inc, sc 4 (46)

Thanks for catching that!  I always need people to proofread these patterns for me

Thank you so much!! Now I can continue. I am still wondering how you made the eyes. What kind of tools do I need for that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

aphid777 In reply to pia-me [2014-02-02 17:23:56 +0000 UTC]

I needle felted roving wool directly onto the finished work.  You will need a needle felting needle and colored wool.  If you're not familiar with how it's done, there's a lot of tutorials on Youtube if you just search "needle felting".  Hope that helps!

pia-me In reply to aphid777 [2014-02-16 14:21:24 +0000 UTC]

That does help, thank you

I am still working on the body and have trouble with line  27 - Sc 2, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 1, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 2 (24)
In my calculation this adds up to 25? and in the end I cannot sc2 but only 1 although I had 32 in round 26.

I increase like this (minute 1:03) and decrease like this (minute 3:53)

Thanks for catching that, I made a mistake!  The correction should be sc 1 instead of sc 2:

Sc 2, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 1, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 1, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 2 (24)
