i was hoping it would be her influencing the dream, but i didn't get those hopes up too high. makes me wonder if the writers considered this at all. but then it might have taken away the message of the episode.

It is painfully obvious that the voice was Starlight Glimmer. I already said when watching the episode for the first time that the voice is expressing herself and choosing words in the same way as Starlight Glimmer does.
Even the tone of the voice sounds similar to Starlight's voice. It is distorted, but if you concentrate strong enough, you can hear it.
I was for a while unsure if the voice is really her, first, especially after I recognized during my 3rd watch that the shadow was returning to Applebloom and thus, indeed her's, and after I saw that the mouth of the shadow is moving while talking during my 9th watch.
But I then developed the theory that she has a spell with which she can talk to ponies in their dreams in order to brainwash them, which she used sometimes in her village, and that she already found one of the eight magical items of Mage Meadowbrook (based on my theory that she will search for them to take revenge on Twilight and her friends) and that this item grants it's owner the power to manipulate dreams, which she did by making it look like Applebloom's shadow is talking. Luna didn't notice that, because the item uses a type of magic she isn't familiar with, so she couldn't detect it and thought the talking shadow is just part of Applebloom's dream.
I was still not convinced completely then, but I just read the Episode Followup for this episode and this sentence, which I couldn't understand in the episode so far, sealed it for me that it's Starlight Glimmer:
"Sounds like cutie marks and trouble are two peas in the same pod."
Cutie marks = trouble.
That's exactly what Starlight Glimmer thinks and exactly what she would say in such a situation.
There's no doubt it's her.
I'm just wondering what she plans. She's obviously trying to get after Applebloom, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle to get her revenge. But how exactly?
This makes me worried. A lot.
It's the second time now that they are in the focus of a villain. I hope it goes well this time too. But I have the feeling that something very bad will happen.....

Maybe Starlight Glimmer has a spell to break into ponies dreams, she had a spell to remove cutie marks. She's that powerful.Β

I will give the writing staff major props if they reveal that Starlight is behind this in some form or another later in the season.Β
Though, to be fair, the idea that Applebloom's own self-doubt is the cause of her troubles is certainly creative and meaningful.Β

So I wasn't the only one that thought that's who it was. It was kinda obvious it was a dream throughout though so it shut down that idea for me. I'm still glad someone made it into an image, and a great one to boot!
