Another commission complete! This is a single character/pose commission for , who has been kind enough to answer all my myriad questions during the creative process.

He requested a pic of one of his DA buds after she'd been transformed into a card, and I was happy to oblige! I did take a couple minor creative directions with this that I might not ordinarily try, like making the figure on the card more resemble a 2-dimensional drawing and adding some extra backlight and fill to the picture to keep everything from being on flat black. But I really like the final outcome. Hopefully he does too!

Model done all up in Poser, then rendered in Poser, done up as a card texture in Photoshop, then re-rendered as a card in C4D and captioned in Photoshop. Phew!

Thank you! That episode has always been one of my favorites, too, and I'm still wondering why that sort of peril (characters turned into cards, drawings or the like) so seldom makes appearances!

Thank you very much! I admit to having a little bit of an enamor with the flat-entrapment theme, be it in cards, paintings, or as standees. ^_^ Glad you like it!

There are a couple cool ways to make a good flattened effect in Poser. The simplest one, you can adjust the Z scale of a model's Body down to near-zero (taking it down fully to zero tends to make some really weird stuff happen, but for instance, 0.01 or 0.05 are usually pretty safe), which can work well for that "Dr. Cassandra vs. Batman/Robin/Batgirl" effect that makes a character look like a cardboard standee.

The other way is more work, but gets the effect I did here... you render an image of your character-- preferably with an alpha channel... in Poser, this can involve just doing the render as a PNG or PSD with no background-- and, in Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, use a combination of posterizing and find edges (or actions that do similar, if you prefer) to make the character appear to be more hand-drawn or two-dimensional.

Then you cut and paste that onto a background (or if you're using a model that already has texture maps, integrate it into a texture map... I've done that with prop models of paintings before) save it as a new texture, and apply that texture to the flat surface in Poser.

Voila, instant flattened capture-ee. You can even adjust certain effects with the texture, like giving it more specularity or light reflection for people captured in high-gloss mediums, like photos or cards.

Hope that helps!

That helped...I am not sure which way I am considering. It sounds like a fun picture to try, but I doubt I can do better than you already did

Vive la difference, I say! I'd obviously be pretty interested in seeing what you come up with! (Ultrawoman may end up thinking otherwise, but that's okay. )
