Description A neck torc or neck ring worked in wire and beads and metallic threads and 'Fantasy Film'.

I've not done the fastening yet, which is likely to be ribbon.

It's around 7cm deep at the front. The 'oints' are around 2.5cm deep. There's around 16 cm between the 'oints'.

The sections that appear to be filled with opal are actually filled with layers of Fantasy Film, and it surprised me as to how well that worked out.

This took a lot of time to make - most probably around 20 to 25 hours. I should really keep a better record of how long it takes me to make things!

That one isn't for sale, but I am open to being commissioned to do such work ... I've not worked out how much it would be in UK £s, but it would be at least £200 I would think ... which is around $400 ...

wow O_O thats expensive, so you could do one similar to this?

Artwyrd In reply to LinaInverseTsg [2007-09-01 20:50:56 +0000 UTC]

It is expensive ... it takes a lot of time to do, each one is unique ... it would be kind of similar, but I won't even try to repeat a piece! I'm not sure that you could!

Exquisite! 20 to 25 hours! It's true - knowing how much time it took is important, as far as pricing goes. Seems counterintuitive, but it's worth it when it comes to selling them.

It was a labour of love ... and it was done over the space of a week, and a few weeks elapsed afore I came up with how to create the fastening ... which took some fiddling with to get right. But I'm a chuffed bunny myself!

Pardon my ignorance, but what is fantasy film?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Artwyrd In reply to BlackCatsAngel [2007-08-11 06:33:33 +0000 UTC]

It's a kind of iridescent polyester film that can be heat bonded to itself ... sewn ... stuck ... printed on ...

Here's a link to info about it ... [link]

The way I've used it, it's ended up looking very much like mother-of-pearl or opal, which amazed me!

You can get Angelina Fibres,w hich is the same stuff but just finely shredded, which you can add to home-made felt or weaving or heatbond or or or or ....

I hope that helps.

Hmmm indeed it is ! I never used to be, but ... I can now accept I'm chuffed with my own work from time to time!

What have you been chuffed with lately ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MasamRay In reply to Artwyrd [2007-07-28 12:34:20 +0000 UTC]

I've been chuffed with a little recipe. It's a mix of soya nuts, chopped almonds, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds all mixed up with a dried apricot and a basil leaf on top.

I've never actually tasted it (I'm sure it tastes disgusting) but it looks pretty and, anyway, its for offering to the hungry gods!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Artwyrd In reply to MasamRay [2007-07-30 05:30:48 +0000 UTC]

I would imagine it would taste rather nice - the basil leaf could be rather nice if it was crystallised, but putting it in lots of sugar for a while ...

I'm sure your gods appreciate it though !

MasamRay In reply to Artwyrd [2007-08-02 07:24:13 +0000 UTC]

Maybe - but sugar is a scarecity in our house. Me and my sister don't eat any added sugar at all, and my mum doesn't eat much.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Artwyrd In reply to MasamRay [2007-08-02 09:37:17 +0000 UTC]

It doesn't need much sugar ... just enough to cover it top and bottom ... brown, unrefined organic sugar would work just as well as white refined sugar ...

You're going to have to charge quite a lot for this to make up for the time you've spent on it - or is it going to be a centre-piece to get the attention to your work?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Artwyrd In reply to kirajones [2007-07-24 17:32:23 +0000 UTC]

I don't know if I could part with this one - it's the first, a 'landmark' for me, and a piece I know is'nt quite right in terms of the 'geometry'.

My other pieces have prices attached to them ... and confirmed as right by a gallery that's hopefully letting me know at the end of the month when I can display some of my work there. Sooo ... going by the prices for pendants, bracelets, earrings etc ... this torc would be ... at least £200 .... probably more .... I know, I can't believe what value there is in my creations ...
