Description
A 'repaint' I did using Instructions for Armada Cyclonus I scanned myself from the copy of the instructions that came with the toy. Here’s the next member of the “Gestalt Project” Combaticons, and the last of the ‘limb’ members, Vortex. Didn’t really have a whole lot of choice with this guy, since Cyclonus is the only Helicopter in both Armada and Energon. At first, I thought it would be an awesome mold for Vortex, ‘cause Cyclonus is armed to the teeth, and so was Vortex when his weapons were attached. As I tried re-coloring it though, I realized that it was just to dang hard to make a good match with the colors, because in vehicle mode, Vortex was primarily ONE color, and Cyclonus is just chock full of them. I don’t think it looks too bad, and I think the robot mode is pretty spot on, but as for the vehicles mode, I just think it’s a bit to colorful and there’s ‘too much going on’. Still though, I’d be happy to call this one a Vortex homage.
His Minicon would be named after one of the Decepticon military Micromasters (btw, if anyone hasn’t checked out Dreamwave’s Micromasters comic, get it, it’s pretty damn cool), keeping in the tradition with the other Combaticon’s Minicons. Vortex’s would be Bombshock.

Well, I agree that it's a bit more colorful than the G1 version, but you have to take into account the 'wow' factor Hasbro seems to be going after lately. Multicolored tires, yellow on everything and paint aps galore.
Anyways, I think this is another great addition to your gallery. The colors are really well distributed and the paint aps, while not your favorite part of this recolor, are cool to.

Thanks. I'm glad you seem to 'accept' him despite what I consider his flaws. And I agree that the colors ARE well distributed, but G1 vortex's were NOT (in vehicle mode at least), and that's where I have so much of a problem with it. In robot mode, I'm pretty happy with the color distribution, as it's about on par with the G1 robot mode I think. And you're right, considering Hasbro's view on paint schemes, he's unacceptably toned down, heh.
