Description
Galactic Pathways©2012 Michael C. Turner
Galactic Visions Space Art
Acrylic on stretched canvas 48 x60 "
A colossal jetting spiral galaxy (a quasar) dominates a multi-galaxy filled sky as it rises above the horizon of a moon orbiting a ringed "super-earth" exo-galactic-planet. An array of satellite galaxies (spiral, elliptical, barred, globular, and irregular) creates a starry backdrop along with myriad other stellar companions. Such "Galactic Pathways" beckon intergalactic travelers across the Cosmos to boldly go where only imaginative minds dare go . . .
Extended descriptor: The depicted galaxy is actually a super-quasar or bipolar jetting galaxy. Quasars are extragalactic phenomena emitting immense amounts of energy in the form of light, infrared radiation, etc, from a super massive/dense source. This energy source is a super-massive black hole located in the centre of the galaxy.
*"Galactic Pathways is the second of my spacescape paintings to recieve a Daily Deviation. The first was "Mysterious Galactic Legends." fav.me/d1ltiot
* I wish to thank Ali (Casperium)casperium.deviantart.com/ for her kind recommendation of "Galactic Pathways" for a Daily Deviation. I am indeed most honored for she maintains the highest standards on Deviant Art. I am also most grateful to everyone who has viewed, favored, and/or commented on this painting. It was created over the past year as I worked on various paintings and I now know that my labor of love was well worth the time expended.
Warmest regards,
Michael C. Turner
I have had requests for prints on this painting and have now added it to my wallpaper gallery.fav.me/d4r2g9e

Amazing! I like the way something is getting blasted into the Milky Way. What I would add would be armies of little meteors, that would be cool. Either way this drawing is good.

That's a great center of attention! My eye just keeps going right back to the center of that galaxy. I think I've seen better ellipses for a spiral galaxy in other works before which I'm guessing is a result of going back to all traditional paint on canvas rather than with digital enhancements. Still, while the composition and in the painting overall is really great, it seems to me that the light sources in the background are more realistic than the spiral arms of the big galaxy itself. Same with the planets, (particularly the big one in front of the galaxy) which looks like graphic 2D art. Not really the same kind of quality I'm used to seeing in your work. It's kind of weird.
Still, I can't complain. ^_^ You still did a good enough job that I love looking at it.

Greetings,
I appreciate your comments and am pleased you do enjoy it. I suppose I should have detailed in my descriptor that the primary spiral galaxy in this painting has been slightly distorted from the encounter and merger of a companion globular cluster (within the lower spiral arms). The angle of view is not directly from above/below but is tilted on the galactic axis to give a "wheel-like" appearance, suitable for the foreground moon's pseudo path/road imagery which is partially the reason for the title(Galactic Pathways). The variance in the background light sources and the large spiral galaxy is in accordance with the effect one would experience when such objects are viewed in conjunction with a much closer/larger and less dispersed angle of view. This does cause the unusual visual phenomenon that you reference. The ringed super-earth transits the face of the large spiral galaxy and would indeed appear somewhat 2-D in comparison, much the way the moon seems more 2D when viewed in this phase from Earth. Of course everyone has their own opinion of a given work of art and it should stand on its own without explanation. The only problem with space art is that the viewing audience may lack sufficient astronomical knowledge to interpret such paintings without a detailed descriptor.
Best regards,
Michael C. Turner

Okay, I understand the kind of extra wavy stuff going on in the galaxy spiral then. And yes, I have not seen as many space photos to have seen anything like this happen. Chances are more likely that viewers are not going to have your kind of knowledge. That kind of thing may be good to keep in mind for the future. I'd also like to point out, (and this is just my opinion) even if everything is realistically accurate in visuals, I've learned in order to make it all work as a whole, as an artist, I'm sure you also realize that some changes from reality should be changed.
Just some free advice. Whether or not you take it is your decision. And I still like the painting regardless. ^_^

No problem! It has a kewl space look.
A few days ago, I had a comic picture up, and it involved a chick. Afterwards, there was quite the commotion.

OMG I like this! There must be a black hole in the middle (only knows because of a glimpse of watching "How the Universe Works")
And in Acrylic....I'm jealous. I like using acrylic, but it's just so hard...meh *shrugs*
In any case, this is awesome!
