Description Galactic Pathways
©2012 Michael C. Turner
Galactic Visions Space Art
Acrylic on stretched canvas 48 x60 "

A colossal jetting spiral galaxy (a quasar) dominates a multi-galaxy filled sky as it rises above the horizon of a moon orbiting a ringed "super-earth" exo-galactic-planet. An array of satellite galaxies (spiral, elliptical, barred, globular, and irregular) creates a starry backdrop along with myriad other stellar companions. Such "Galactic Pathways" beckon intergalactic travelers across the Cosmos to boldly go where only imaginative minds dare go . . .

Extended descriptor: The depicted galaxy is actually a super-quasar or bipolar jetting galaxy. Quasars are extragalactic phenomena emitting immense amounts of energy in the form of light, infrared radiation, etc, from a super massive/dense source. This energy source is a super-massive black hole located in the centre of the galaxy.

*"Galactic Pathways is the second of my spacescape paintings to recieve a Daily Deviation. The first was "Mysterious Galactic Legends." fav.me/d1ltiot

* I wish to thank Ali (Casperium)casperium.deviantart.com/ for her kind recommendation of "Galactic Pathways" for a Daily Deviation. I am indeed most honored for she maintains the highest standards on Deviant Art. I am also most grateful to everyone who has viewed, favored, and/or commented on this painting. It was created over the past year as I worked on various paintings and I now know that my labor of love was well worth the time expended.

Warmest regards,

I have had requests for prints on this painting and have now added it to my wallpaper gallery.fav.me/d4r2g9e

This is gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.
Though it's a bit worrying that the SMBH is active in that galaxy.

Well look who got a Daily Deviation!

This reminds me of something I only learned about last night on a documentary. Called a "Death Star Galaxy" by them, there's one where one of the jets is pointing right at a neighbouring galaxy, flinging out stars away from it and giving everything else a lethal dose of radiation. Every living thing in that galaxy is doomed, pretty bad luck I would say, lets just be glad its not us, but such a waste of what are probably heaps of life-supporting planets there

Greetings Matthew,

I replied to your comment earlier however, it seems it was not transmitted. Your information regarding "Death Star Galaxies" is indeed correct. Fortunately, as artists, we can safely take viewers on Cosmic tours that would otherwise be deadly to mortal beings. It seems creation and chaos are the norm for the known Universe/Cosmos . . .

Don't worry, the first one got through But best to make sure, especially since catching up on DD messages needs no time to be wasted on failed replies at all

Lucky for us we're still in the "creation" phase, our chaos time will probably be something for future generations to panic about

Greetings Matthew,

Thank you for confirming. As you know,it is impossible to personally respond to every person on a DD therefore, My first focus is on my long-term contacts such as yourself before immersing myself in the ocean of others.. . Yes, our local cluster is still well within the creative phase even though the shadow of chaos darkens our view from time to time. Of course, with such relatively little knowledge of the true nature of the Cosmos, one can never be too assured. The quest of the unknown enriches our imaginations and fuels our creativity . . .

Regards,
Michael

Beautiful, this really creates a sense of awe. I love the fact that this looks so fantastical but in reality stuff like this is going on out in space, constantly. I don't think there is enough art like this, that expresses the wonders of the cosmos.

For whatever reason the science community changed the term quasar into QSO's (Quasar just sounds cooler!). What you have done is not only captivating but it is also accurate as well. Just want to ask, is the gas giant with the ring system have a large moon like satellite within it? If so very cool.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AstroBoy1 In reply to teh1legwonder [2012-02-26 05:20:36 +0000 UTC]

Greetings,

Thank you for you comment . . . Yes, QSO is now the general term for Quasar although I prefer to use the "antiquated Quasar." Actually the gas giant is not a gas giant but a super-earth class planet with rings and yes, it does have a host of lunar companions. I am pleased you like "Galactic Pathways."
