So here's how I made the hand for all those who asked. And here's the finished product in motion

mistake caught! it's actually 52 eye bolts!
edit*
and for all those who will or have asked. It cost me under $50 Canadian to build. I don't know what it would cost in American as I don't live there, have the same stores, or really care. but you can just use google to convert the currency and give yourself a ballpark figure.

I just finished working on one of these of my own, and I think the glove I've used is too stretchy a material. Plus I'm having difficult in getting the thumb to want to close, I fear the keyring on it might be too big for good movement control. other fingers work fine though, and I can't wait to get video of it in motion. I'm planning to build and entire forearm covering, with luck Already have the PVC for it.

Absoloutely brilliant. Took me a while to figure some of it out, and still trying to work out some kinks with the springs...but one of the funnest projects I've gone at in a while. Have to get a picture up some time.

I have only one question: I saw the movie, and it looks like the hand has every motion in the fingers as a regular hand does. Are you able to grip anything with this? Like, could you where this somewhere, and hold things with them slipping through the fingers?

aternox In reply to Prometheus-Nike [2011-11-01 17:38:32 +0000 UTC]
depends on the object, bigger = easier. It's difficult because you can't feel anything, but it is possible to grip.

I have a question... How are you supposed to screw INSIDE of the glove...?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
aternox In reply to Terrainela [2011-11-01 17:43:28 +0000 UTC]
i got one in about the center back of the palm by going through the wrist opening (i placed the screw and then shifted the glove around it to move the hole where I needed it).

It's awesome man but just a little thing , shouldn't it you need 14 springs instead of 7 ? Because when I look at this plan there should be as many springs than hinges .

aternox In reply to Saduro [2011-11-01 17:39:46 +0000 UTC]
technically 14 springs, but I bought seven and cut them in half

Where did you get the steal plates to put on the back of it like you did? And what would you suggest to make it look more rustic and old.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
aternox In reply to Big-Bad-Red [2011-11-01 17:41:56 +0000 UTC]
i got them from a hardware store (Home Depot). To make it look older or more rustic...i'd probably paint the metal pieces to look rusted and put lots of groves and cracks in the wood

I plan to build something like this. I just have one question. I looked everywhere and I couldn't find the springs. Where did you get them?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
aternox In reply to gundamexige [2011-08-14 23:39:08 +0000 UTC]
I picked them up at canadian tire in either the section with screws and fasteners or right next to it with the hinges and gate type hardware.

so, is there a type of glove that's better? Like plastac/rubber or cloth?
By the way, EPIC design
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
aternox In reply to sabatonisepic27 [2011-08-14 23:40:36 +0000 UTC]
i found it was more a stretch factor. the less stretchy the material of the glove, the better it worked

Hey, I am making this, and I have a question-on Step 6, when you are attaching the springs to the eyebolts, do you use superglue, or tie them on?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
aternox In reply to Inkcreation [2011-07-20 14:36:48 +0000 UTC]
hey, neither actually. I used some needle nose pliers (the small pliers that end in a point) to bend the last loop of each spring around the eyebolt and then pinch them closed.

its a good idea, but if u dont have the materials u can also make it out of other materials, such as plasticine instead of barbecue handles, or cardon for wood, or toothpicks instead of screws, elastic bands instead of springs, again carton instead of the hinges and use super glue to stick it to the plasticine. Im doing one right now. I hope if works, if it does, ill put the link here.
