Description
ARKHAM FILESINMATE NAME: Edward Nygma (also Eddie Nashton)
ALIAS: The Riddler.
It's no small wonder this man has gone through so many therapists. Just listening to him speak gives me a headache during our sessions. He is, as he so often likes to point out, a genius. He could have done anything he wanted, but turned to crime. He is obsessed with puzzles, riddles, and games of all kinds to the point where everything he says is a riddle of some kind. I believe he has a deep-rooted inferiority complex which causes him to show off his intellect so others will acknowledge his superiority. An odd mental quirk results in Nygma's compulsion to leave clues to his crimes in the form of riddles and puzzles. I believe he secretly wants to be caught, though he will never admit it himself. He claims it is to prove he is smarter than the Batman, by one day stumping the Dark Knight with an unsolvable riddle. He projects an intense rivalry onto the Batman, the primary source of his obsessions. It is my professional opinion that, with extensive treatment to wean him off his riddles and his hatred for the Batman, Edward Nygma can be successfully rehabilitated into society.
PROGNOSIS: POTENTIALLY CURABLE

Actually I think it was stated in 'The Annotated Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass' that the real answer is as follows
"They both make many notes, though all are very flat...and they are both never written from the back."
Ravens make flat notes with their caw and writing desks help make paper notes.
For the second part you can't write on a writing desk from the back(it's too tall) and the 'never' was supposed to be spelled
"N..E..V..A..R.."(written from the last letter backwards)
But the proof-reader thought it was a typo and took that part out.

another version replaces 'and they are both never written from the back.' with 'and they are both never put with the wrong end in front.'

Starting with the top right and going clockwise: Darkness, A bullet, Tomorrow, and NO ONE KNOWS. The "raven and writing desk" riddles has no answer.

I love this piece! You did well with of course, the Riddler himself, but all the effects - the riddles, the glowing - were an awesome touch!
Is it bad that I only can answer one of the riddles? "Tomorrow."

Well, you'd have to have read The Hobbit to know one, and the "Raven like a writing desk" one has no answer. The other I got from my friend, who stumped me with it. You aren't that much of a failure.

Well...I read the Hobbit like...four years ago, but apparently I forgot "darkness" was the answer poor Bilbo had to answer.
I'm obsessed with Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and it would seem I didn't recognize the raven riddle either. >_>
As for that other one...I still don't get it.

Oh, do I love this guy.
An excellent depiction of my favorite rogue of all Gotham City!!
And, he's wearing the classy clothes and has is in my favorite version - the redhaired one!!
There's only one small detail that I would personally change a bit... the font used for the riddles. I think maybe it would have been even cooler if you had used a font like this one: [link] , considering Eddie's typical interest for computers and electronics.
Your description of the character was right on the spot, too. You nailed his personality perfectly!
...Now, as a last thing, I shall attempt to solve the riddles WITHOUT making an internet search for the answer.
A raven is like a writing desk because they both have feathers on them - I think I heard that one before? What always comes and never arrives, is it maybe the future, the day tomorrow? Ok, but these are the easy ones. I'm not sure I can solve the other two.... mmmh... (darn, they're difficult....) Is the answer to the one on the upper right, the silence? Yes, I think maybe it's the silence....? Oh, but the last one.... mmmmmh.... I can't solve the last one. T_T;

Atomic-Chinchilla In reply to Lun-Sei [2009-10-17 05:44:38 +0000 UTC]
Y'know, you're right. I'll change the font when I get the time.
The first, "Raven like a writing desk", is from Alice in Wonderland. Though people have made answers for it, there is actually no answer to this riddle. I actually read a Riddler mini-comic in the Batman: Black and White series, where he breaks into the estate of a man said to possess the true answer to this unanswerable riddle. Upon finding the answer, he discovers Batman beat him to it and replaced it with his own made-up answer, so Riddler will always know Batman has one riddle that he can't solve. Poor Riddler.
The answer to the second is tomorrow. Good job.
The third one is Darkness. It's a riddle from The Hobbit, when Bilbo Baggins has a riddle game with Gollum. But silence is a really good answer.
The last one was a brain stumper told by a friend of mine. I have no idea where he got it. I never guessed it, either. The answer is a bullet.
